The Competition Authority is constituted in terms of section 4 of the Competition Act of 2009. The main purpose of the Authority is prevention of, and redress for anti-competitive practices in the economy. The Authority requires the services of a knowledgeable, highly skilled and self–driven citizen to apply for the above position
Main Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the job entails to manage, direct and coordinate the operations of the Legal and Enforcement Department by ensuring mechanisms are in place to enable the Authority to investigate and assess anti-competitive practices in the economy. The job encompasses establishment of policies and strategies to facilitate enforcement in accordance with the Competition Act, to ensure the prevention, redressing and removal of unfair competition practices which may affect economic growth, development and diversification, through enforcement of anti-trust/anti-monopoly or competition law.

The incumbent will also provide legal services and advice to the Authority ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and the protection of the interests of the Authority.
Key Performance Areas

Compliance with good corporate governance and business practices.
High quality legal advice resulting in minimal successful challenges to the Authority’s and Commission’s decisions and maximisation of advocacy and enforcement activities.
Development and implementation of Policies, guidelines and strategies for the investigation, prevention, redressing and removal of anti-competitive practices.
Effective enforcement of competition law with decisive follow up, investigations and intervention against offenders of competition law.
To ensure that appropriate contracts are in place to meet the needs of the Authority

Position Requirements

Education:

A degree in law (LLB).
A post-graduate qualification in Law would be an added advantage.

Experience:

At least 10 years’ post qualification relevant experience, 3 of which should be at a management level.
A demonstrable track record and extensive experience of working in litigation, commercial law-related fields, and setting case strategies is essential.
Must be admitted to practice in the Courts of the Republic of Botswana

Remuneration and Terms

The above position is on fixed term contract. It offers competitive remuneration and terms as contained in the General Terms and Conditions of Service of the Competition Authority, and awaits the right and most suitable candidate.
