Internship for a Female candidate in Agronomist

We are looking for an intern who can:

•Think critically to solve problems;
•Plan to improve crop yields and Develop methods to control weeds and pests to keep crops disease-free;
•Discern the best ways to plant, harvest, and cultivate the plants, regardless of the climate;
•Able to apply conservation agriculture methods;
The intern will be required to travel to all project sites within South Africa where, travel and housing expenses will
be covered by the company.
Candidate must have graduated within the past 3years

 

Primary Responsibilities

•Regular field checks and soil moisture status monitoring;
•Insect, weed & disease monitoring / diagnostics and Irrigation scheduling where necessary;
•Agriculture chemical, fertilizer & seed recommendations;
•Soil sampling and equipment calibration;
•Crop rotation planning and hybrid/variety selection recommendations;
•Solicit customers & increase hactors and/or opportunities;
•Precision Agri-services (including GIS/GPS information);
•Detailed computerized field reports & permanent record keeping;
•Crop budgeting & planning;
•Show interest in Grain production in any condition;
•Have interest in implementing green innovative practices to improve yields;
•Foresee farms needs;
•Other farm duties required.

Qualifications

•A graduate with Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with emphasis on agronomy, crop, soil, weed management,
agribusiness, or other agri-science course work;
•Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office software, email, internet, spread sheets;
•Good diagnostic and decision making skills
•English is a requirement;
• Proven ability to effectively communicate – verbal & written skills;
•Demonstrate skills in quality service;
•Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives without close supervision;
•Desire to serve farmers and others involved in the agriculture industry;
•Willingness to work as a team member;
•Desire to remain updated with new agricultural trends and technology;
•Self-motivation, willingness to learn and good work ethic;
•Ability to work outside during heat or cold days & ability to walk several long distance per day;
•Minimum one year work experience;
•Excellent organization, detail oriented, ability to multi task and manage time well;
•Valid Driver’s License
•Professional, friendly and enthusiastic personality.

 

Compensation and benefits

 

•The internship is from 3months to 6months;
•The intern will be paid a R2500,00 stipend per month;
•The company will offer the intern housing and two meals per day;
•Transport from Botswana to South Africa will be the responsibility of the company.
