PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

STRYDE stands for Strengthening Rural Youth Development through Enterprise, a youth enterprise program designed to enable youth aged 18 to 35 to have more successful transition to economically independent adulthood, increasing their opportunity ,ability and motivation to engage in income generating activities


POSITION REQUIREMENTS


• Have a BGCSE certificate at minimum. A tertiary certificate in Business Admin, Finance Marketing or other relevant area will be an added value.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in business administration, business development, finance and or marketing
• Private sector experience and deep knowledge of Botswana’s business environment.
• Able to conduct youth trainining at least 12 to 14 days/month and follow up 6 months of aftercare to 100 youth


• Have excellent interpersonal ,oral and written communication skills.
• Fluent in both English and Setswana is a must
• Experience in mentoring and/or youth business training preferred.
• Proven ability to develop and evaluate business plans
• Proven interest in youth empowerment and development
• Proven experience in volunteering , youth leadership and advocacy
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and powerpoint required.

    Botswana Country Office seek services of a Consultant to set up a multi sectoral project (U-Report) that will be used to discuss key community level development issues and solicit information about concerns that are critical for the survival, education, development, protection and participation of children and HIV among adolescents.

EOI – Industrial Development Expert – African Development Bank – Botswana

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) has received financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the Tripartite Capacity Building Programme (TCBP), and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for Consultancy for the services of an Industrial Development Expert based at SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, Botswana.

 

The Industrial development pillar aims at developing and improving the productive capacity in the Tripartite by harnessing the existing resource base and addressing the supply side constrains in regional value chains. An Industrial Development Consultant is therefore required to support the Tripartite-RECs in the Tripartite negotiations.

The Specific objectives of the consultant are:
The consultant shall provide technical assistance to the T-RECs and Member/Partner States in the implementation of the Tripartite Work Programme of the Industrial Development Pillar. Specifically, the Industrial Development Expert will:

(i) Facilitate implementation of the roadmaps emanating from the studies already undertaken, including baseline survey to assess industrial statistics and information management capacities in the Tripartite; and agro-processing value chains studies as detailed below;

(ii) Assist the T-RECs to implement programmes and action plans for strengthening national industrial statistics capacities in Tripartite Member States;

(iii) Assist T-RECs to implement recommendations of the Statistics capacity study to set-up industrial Statistics database systems in the T-REC Secretariats and Tripartite Member States;

(iv) Assist T-RECs to implement plans to set-up Statistical Business Registers in T-REC Member/Partner States;

(v) Assist T-RECs in implementation of the Tripartite Action Plans in agro-processing;

(vi) Facilitate assessment of required software and procedures for industrial databases at National and Regional Levels. This will include recommendation on the software options, methodology and specification for the procurement of the software;

(vii) Coordinate training on best practices in industrial policy design and management, and on modern methodologies to collect industrial data and statistics;

 

(viii) In collaboration with the T-REC Secretariats, prepare background papers, policy briefs/concept notes, and reports for Tripartite workshops / meetings on the implementation of the Tripartite Work Programme; and

(ix) Provide periodic monitoring, evaluation and implementation reports of the Tripartite Work Programmes on industrial development pillar

 

The candidate should have:

  • A Masters’ degree in Economics or Industrial Policy or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the field of industrial policy and organization at National and Regional levels;
  • At least five years’ experience in proven research work, with specific focus on industrial development including value chains, value addition including facilitation of cross border industrial development issues as well as SMEs development;
  • Demonstrable experience in capacity building in industrial policy or statistics at regional level
  • Demonstrable knowledge of or experience in industrial competitiveness issues.

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) now invites eligible Individual consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services for duration of four (4) months with a possibility of extension subject to performance and need.
