Job Description
In terms of Section 21 of the Act, and for the advancement of its mandate, the Architects Registration Council seeks to employ Assistant Registrar on a full time basis for a renewable contract of 36 months. The successful candidate should be able to commence her/his duties on August, 2016.
Main Purpose of the Job:
The Assistant Registrar will be immediately responsible to the Registrar or alternatively the Chairperson as and when needed. The Assistant Registrar will assist the Registrar in providing secretarial services to the Council to ensure compliance with statutory requirements as well as to ensure that the Council’s mandate is achieved and its decisions are implemented.


Key Performance Areas:
  • Ensure that members of the public have satisfactory knowledge of the affairs of the Council.
  • Adherence to and compliance by the Council, key stakeholders and affected parties with the statutory provisions of the Architects’
  • Registration Act and the Regulations.
  • Provision of efficient secretarial and cost-effective administrative services to the Council.
  • Promotion of a positive image of the Council.
  • Ensure security and adequate protection of the Council assets.
Core Competencies:
  • Knowledge and experience relevant to the strategic aims of the Council, in particular the effective regulation and the development of the profession of Architecture in accordance with laid out procedures;
  • Capability to operate at a strategic level, gather information, interact with professionals in architecture and other fields, manage and motivate the staff of the Council;
  • Good working knowledge of architectural professional practice;
  • General working knowledge of corporate governance, statutory and regulatory law;
  • Ability to assist the Council to competently apply the Architects’ Registration Act and its regulations.
Qualifications and Experience;
  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in architectural studies or a professional qualification in architecture with at least 5 years post-qualification experience in the built environment;
  • Eligibility for registration with the Architects’ Registration Council and in accordance with the Act, would be an added advantage.
Job Requirements:
  • The Assistant Registrar will be responsible for, amongst others, the following:
  • Assist in performing the secretariat functions of the Council and its committees;
  • Assist in the day-to-day administration, management of the Council offices and procurement of services and assets in accordance with the directives of the Council;
  • Assist the Registrar in executing all the functions of the Architects Registration Council and performing all the duties as provided for under the Architects’ Registration Act and/or as latest amended;
  • Assist in maintaining, in a neat and orderly manner, the Register of Architectural professionals as prescribed, from time to time, by the Council;
  • Performing all other duties, as assigned by the Council through the Registrar, in pursuit of its functions and powers in accordance with Act.

The Architects’ Registration Council (the Council) is established by Act of Parliament-Cap.61:08, to provide for the registration of Architects, Architectural Technologists and Architectural Draftspersons, regulation of the conduct of registered persons, regulation of the practice of architecture, qualifications and training of architectural professionals and for matters incidental thereto.
