Intelligence & Analysis and Client Servicing Consultant

This position plays a key role in servicing priority accounts in the southern Africa region, providing first-hand intelligence and analysis across the region and actively engaging with clients. Key deliverables include: establishing in-market networks, providing in-depth analysis on political and commercial dynamics across the region, and supporting complex government affairs projects.

Job description

Consulting Services

  • Run complex political and commercial intelligence projects
  • Develop creative consulting solutions for clients facing specific challenges or opportunities in the region
  • Participate in client briefings on political, regulatory and commercial developments in the region
  • Develop, manage and advise on relationships with key stakeholders, stakeholder engagement plans, overseeing and co-ordinating mutually beneficial relationships built on a firm understanding of strategic priorities
  • Network with key stakeholders to gather intelligence on their policies, attitudes, current plans and upcoming announcements
  • Ensure that consulting projects are conducted and delivered within the required timeframe while simultaneously satisfying africapractice’s quality standards
  • Build strong and profitable client relationships

Research and Analysis

  • Produce regular, high quality analysis on political, regulatory and commercial developments in Southern Africa
  • Maintain a high level of regional expertise through desktop research, attendance at relevant seminars and in-country intelligence gathering
  • Develop and maintain a network of expert contacts and subcontractors in the region

Marketing and Business Development

  • Support business development for africapractice across Southern Africa
  • Liaise regularly with africapractice’s offices in the region
  • Support marketing and PR initiatives to generate new business leads
  • Represent africapractice at Pan-Africa focused conferences and seminars

Media Work

  • Provide expert comment to media and undertake broadcast work as requested

Requirements, Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline, relevant Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working on, analysing and engaging with African politics, regulatory affairs and business affairs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines and with great attention to detail
  • Excellent strategic and analytical skills; able to develop realistic strategies to address problems of diverse nature
  • Experience in policy advocacy and excellent influencing, persuasion and engagement skills
  • A disciplined self-starter, able to work on their own initiative on complex issues, with only remote oversight

  • Adapts well to changing demands and ambiguous situations; shows an eagerness to seize opportunities
  • Excellent team working skills; ability to work in teams across different levels of seniority
  • Ability to cultivate strong trust-based relationships with people at all levels within the organisation, client organisations and the wider business and political landscape; knows how and when to ask the right questions with diplomacy and tact
  • Excellent knowledge of Southern Africa and detailed knowledge of political, operational and commercial dynamics in the region
  • Excellent contacts with local and foreign political experts, government officials and private sector players in the region; special interest in Angola, DRC, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe, as possible
  • Excellent command of English; working knowledge of Portuguese or French a strong advantage
  • Experience in business development is preferred
