The Architects’ Registration Council (the Council) is established by an Act of Parliament-Cap.61:08 (Botswana Government), to provide for the registration of Architect Architectural Technologists, and Architectural Draftspersons, regulation of the conduct of registered persons, regulation of the practice of architecture, qualifications, and training of architectural professionals, and for matters incidental thereto ensuring the protection of the public interest.
The Council is looking for suitably qualified, results-oriented, organised, experienced, and articulate candidates for the positions listed below to provide relevant expertise and services to the Council. All positions are based in Gaborone.

Overview:
In terms of Section 21 of the Act, and for the advancement of its mandate, the Architects’ Registration Council seeks to employ Assistant Registrar on a full-time basis for a renewable fixed-term contract of 5 years.
Main Purpose of the Job:
The Assistant Registrar will be immediately responsible to the Registrar or alternatively the Chairperson as and when needed. The Assistant Registrar will assist the Registrar in overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Council and providing technical support to the Council on regulatory and compliance matters.
Duties and Key responsibilities:
The Assistant Registrar will be responsible for, amongst others, the following:
- Assists in performing the secretariat functions of the Council and its committees.
- Assists in the day-to-day administration, management of the Council offices, and procurement of services and assets in accordance with the directives of the Council.
- Assists the Registrar in executing all the functions of the Architects Registration Council and performing all the duties as provided for under the Architects’ Registration Act and/or as latest amended.
- Assists the Registrar with the development and implementation of operational processes and procedures.
- Assists in maintaining, in a neat and orderly manner, the Register of Architectural professionals as prescribed, from time to time, by the Council.
- Assist the Registrar with the development and implementation of the Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Supervises the junior employees of the Council to ensure effective performance and productivity.
- Performing all other duties, as assigned by the Registrar and/or the Council, in pursuit of its mandate and by the Act.
Key performance areas:
- Ensuring that members of the public have satisfactory knowledge of the affairs of the Council.
- Ensures adherence to and compliance by key stakeholders and affected parties to the statutory provisions of the Architects’ Registration Act and its Regulations.
- Provision of efficient secretarial and cost-effective administrative services to the Council.
- Promotion and upholding of a positive image of the Council.
- Ensuring security and adequate protection of the Council assets.
- Effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting on service level agreements (SLA).
- Drive effective supervision of the junior employees of the Council to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day activities of the organisation.
Core competencies:
- Knowledge and experience relevant to the strategic aims of the Council and with a focus on effective regulation and the development of the profession of Architecture in accordance with laid-out processes and procedures.
- Capability to operate at a strategic level; – gather information, interact with professionals in Architecture and other professional disciplines, and manage and motivate the staff of the Council.
- Good working knowledge of the practice of architecture in Botswana and internationally.
- General working knowledge of corporate governance, statutory and regulatory legislations.
- Ability to assist the Council in competently applying and enforcing the provisions of the Architects Registration Act and its Regulations.
- Outstanding customer care and proven experience in problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Highly computer literate (all MS Office packages).
Educational qualifications:
- Minimum of a 5-year bachelor’s degree in architectural studies or a professional qualification in architecture with at least 5 years postqualification experience in the built environment and the practice of architecture.
- Interested applicants should be registered and in good standing with the Architects’ Registration Council.
- A professional qualification in law enforcement and/or compliance management will be an added advantage.
