The Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission (OKACOM) was established in 1994 by the Governments of the Republic of Angola, Botswana and Namibia to advice the three states on the best possible use of the Cubango-Okavango (CORB) river’s natural resources. OKACOM through its Secretariat provides technical support and coordination to commit the member states to promote coordinated and environmentally sustainable regional water resources development while addressing the legitimate social and economic needs of each of the riparian states.
The Global Environmental Facility (GEF), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Governments of the Republic of Angola, Botswana and Namibia are currently providing technical and financial support to OKACOM to implement the ‘Support to the Cubango-Okavango River Basin (CORB) Strategic Action Programme (SAP) Implementation” project.
