MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
Education:
Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.
Experience: At least 5 years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorised vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Good knowledge of automotive maintenance and vehicle operations.
- Good knowledge of current traffic rules and regulations.
- Able to complete forms and registers accurately.
Languages:
Excellent verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in one or more African languages besides English a distinct advantage.
Personal Attributes:
- Proven integrity and honesty.
- Be able to follow instructions and procedures.
- Be able to work independently, be highly organised, deadline driven and efficient with planning skills.
- Pride in driver/messenger professionalism.
- Have sober habits
- Ability to work well in a team environment, and positive attitude.
- Willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week and to be available at short notice.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide efficient and safe transportation of authorized personnel and/or commodities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Driving
- Drive vehicle for official travel and business as requested by the organisation
- Maintain high standard of service to both internal and external guests
- Ensure punctuality and safe transport
- Observing the road and traffic laws and regulations of the Republic
- Ensure that safe driving practises are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
Official Car Security & Maintenance
- Ensure vehicle is kept clean, tidy and in good working condition at all times
- Ensure that the vehicle is kept secure at all times
- Ensure vehicle is given regular/day to day maintenance checks; oil, water, battery, tyres, etc.
- Ensure vehicle repairs/service are carried out properly and in time by approved service providers
- Prepare and submit vehicle monitoring reports- maintenance, expenses, mileage at the end of each month
- Ensure vehicle insurance and registration is updated according to schedule and renewals are done timely.
WFP Logbook
- Log official trips & mileage daily
Administration
- Photocopying, filing, handling mail and delivering goods and correspondences, carrying parcels, packages and delivering and collection of official documents as per required.
- Assist admin and finance with assets & inventory management, ordering and managing stationery as well as petty cash management.
- Assisting in organising and maintenance, arranging meetings, training and workshop activities.
To perform any other job-related duties requested by Management.
