Overall job purpose
This is a leading strategic role in the Business Development area. The individual will be responsible for driving the Business Development strategies for Absa Life Botswana and ensuring that these strategies are adopted amongst all levels of the Company. They will be responsible for developing optimisation plans that are based on sales performance reports and is inclusive of the business sales information platforms, production steering, product development, budgets and forecasting, market intelligence, sales training, and mentorship.
The individual will be accountable for the full insurance portfolio of major customers including bancassurance partnerships, brokers, group risk portfolio, other strategic partnerships as well as the retail portfolio for Absa Life Botswana.
Part of his/her responsibility will be ensuring that the Sales department is enabled effectively by ensuring that all sales enablement requirements are met and fulfilled, as well as service and customer experience for Absa Life customers identification of solutions and technologies that drive sales efficiency and, consequently, revenue growth.
Main accountabilities
- Establish and maintain professional relationships through networking with industry leaders, regulators, and policy makers as well as business partners that are key in the development of new ventures
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with key internal stakeholder and role players i.e.. Croup Marketing and management
- Apply for membership at relevant industry bodies as agreed with the line management to build relationships with key players in the industry
- Host regular and relevant functions (as agreed with line management) to socialise and inform/update the corporate community on developments in the industry
- Conduct quarterly meetings with strategic partners to discuss portfolio performance and general contractual items
- Manage the relationship with key regional stakeholders (i.e. Regional Manager) through networking in the region to ensure optimal value add of Business Development
- Champion and manage business bulk acquisition strategic plan in line with Absa Life Botswana Business unit strategy
- Evaluate newly proposed products and/solution concept on technical feasibility commercial viability, market compatibility and ensure alignment with customer requirements and financial attractiveness Use strong negotiation skills, to ensure that the appropriate pricing and margins are secured for both the client and the bank from a ROI (Return on Investment) perspective
- Investigate and drive new initiatives that would benefit business in acquiring new channels of sales, such as linking with enterprise development centers, networking, or presenting at local business events which are supported by Absa Life Botswana.
- Identification of solutions and technologies that drive sales efficiency and, consequently, revenue growth.
- Generate proposals to increase the value of the Absa Life portfolio through the identification of new markets, products, potential alliances, and leverage off Absa Group capabilities Collect market intelligence through research by reading articles, publications, internet, word of mouth and networking daily to keep abreast of market developments
- Oversee the activities of the Group Risk portfolio to ensure effective delivery of business plans
- Determine and analyse development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching. Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members. Play a mentorship role to key Sales personnel, assisting in the execution of their duties upon request, ensuring constant improvement in their professional skills.
- Through established relations with corporate clients, ensure the continuous enhancement and improvement of customer retention initiatives to reduce account closure rates
- Sustain and uphold already established relationships with existing clients by visiting, answering queries, or by analysing financial situations and business requirements of clients, to support and link the client with value added products or create awareness about Absa Life Botswana’s solution offerings
- Co-ordinate client functions on an adhoc basis in order to create general awareness of Absa Life Botswana offerings. Act as a conduit and be the national Relationship Manager between third party clients in order to ensure delivery of superior customer experience and achievement of set goals
- Actively keep up to date with all relevant knowledge, legislation and developments within the business unit and banking industry that may have an impact on the Business Advantage
- Ensure that Broker Consultants and Group Risk Administrators work on a contact strategy for client retention purposes and thereafter collating and reporting on feedback Head Business Development.
Education and experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree in business management or any business-related degree
- COP Long Term insurance
- Insurance Risk Management qualification
- Master’s Degree would be an added advantage
Preferred
Experience in dealing with complex and multiple stakeholders:
- Experience and knowledge in Banking, Investments, and Insurance
- Five years managerial or leadership role experience within the Insurance industry
- Minimum of Five (5) years relevant working experience in insurance or banking role in risk related role
