REF: SS001: HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER
Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the successful candidates will be responsible for the Planning, developing and designing Housekeeping policies and establishing service standards and procedures to enable effective management of the Hospital laundry and housekeeping activities, ensuring that the environment meets with highest standard of hygiene in line with established standards.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:-
- Adopts and develops hospital housekeeping policies and procedures including standards to ensure that the Hospital’s environment provides adequate safety for patients and staff underpinned by good welfare provisions for same.
- Develops housekeeping management programme aimed at ensuring that patients, visitors and staff are all protected against acquiring a healthcare associated infections by effectively overseeing the effective implementation and maintenance
- Continuously assesses risk of, and prevent, detect and control, the spread of healthcare associated infections.
- Also to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, including all equipment, reusable medical devices and all other materials used during the provision of services to patients.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers and ensures that cleaning, laundry and related services by are of required quality through continuous auditing and monitoring.
- Undertakes resource planning and ensures that the Housekeeping section keeps to budgets through optimum use of resources and efficient cost control mechanisms
- Monitor compliance to all regulatory requirements including provision of check lists and for to ensure strict cleanliness standards are maintained
- Works with quality manager and heads of departments to ensures that housekeeping staff adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, participate in all hospital wide Quality Assurance initiatives and creates a good team spirit enabled by effective communication with all work colleagues in other departments
- Institutes an effective grievance redressal system for patients and ensures feedback mechanisms are functional by producing timely reports to facilitates good customer service
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Diploma in Hospitality Industry or equivalent
Experience
Ten years’ experience in hospitality industry three of which should have been as team leader or at supervisory level preferably in a private hospital environment of similar size as Sidilega Private Hospital.
Competency Requirements
- Knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and food preparation
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage at all level of management with a focus on patients’ needs
- Proven people and conflict management skills
- Passionate about a hygienic environment
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to internalise the hospital values and quality management systems
- Ability to think and make decision quickly, work in stressful circumstances and stay calm in a crisis
- Financial, budgeting and stock-taking skills
