BCL is seeking suitably qualified candidates for the following positions:
MINE MANAGER
The successful candidate is expected to hold the appointment as manager under Regulation 6(1) of the Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act.
Job Summary
Responsible for the overall management of mine including safety, planning, budgeting, staffing, cost containment regulatory compliance and target achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the care and maintenance technical management team and manage all mining personnel and resources
- Implement and monitor care and maintenance strategies, activities, plans, and reports
- Recognise and anticipate operational, technical and safety challenges, take action to prevent or overcome them, and seek continuous Improvement
- Ensure implementation and adherence to the 8CL’s Safety, Health and Environmental management programmes and objectives
- Propose capital expenditure projects to improve care and maintenance operations
- Oversee budget preparation, and monitor and report performance and costs
- Engage with regulatory authorities to promote Company policies
- Collaborate with other management colleagues and the Liquidator to achieve overall objectives care and maintenance plans and the Liquidator
- Oversee projects, such as rehabilitation or reprocessing projects as well as projects to redress the lack of care and maintenance undertaken on the mine prior to liquidation
- Oversee the recruitment and development of superintendents, supervisors, and operators, providing support, encouragement, advice and guidance to build an effective workforce
- Identify potential risks and ensure processes are established to manage appropriately
- Direct the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to mining standards, organisational standards and legislative requirements
- Assume responsibility as mining lead for all shafts
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years post qualification experience m Mining
- Preferably five years’ experience at Section Manager / Muve Overseer level, within an underground mining environment
- Blasting Licence Certificate
- Valid drivers’licence
- Underground mining experience essential

- Broad technical knowledge of underground mining operations and processes
- Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and respect for legislation, regulations and procedures, concerning, safety, employment and environmental protection
- Good report writing and presentation skills
- Sound computer skills
- Experience in mine planning and analysis

- Good business acumen and entrepreneurial thinking
- Ability to create team synergy, manage diversity and promote a high-performance culture
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to make and implement difficult decisions, and communicate the reasons for them

Preference will be given to suitable citizen candidates and internal candidates.
