ARASA seeks to appoint a passionate, motivated and innovative individual to fill the position of Programmes Lead. Working with teams based in Windhoek, Cape Town and Kampala, and reporting to the Deputy Director, key areas of responsibility will include:
· Leading and managing the development, implementation and evaluation of ARASA’s programme activities through conceptualisation and design of new programmes and advocacy campaigns/ strategies to achieve the overall goals and objectives of ARASA, including identifying short and long term programme deliverables;
· Providing technical and managerial guidance and programmatic leadership to support a passionate and skilled team of programme officers and partners to meet programme deliverables;
· Providing strategic support to the development of research and policy positions to inform ARASA’s advocacy work;
· Representing the organisation at various national, regional and international fora while initiating and maintaining strategic partnerships;
· Working with the communications officer and programme officers to ensure the maintenance of a positive organisational profile in the media and support the documentation of ARASA’s work and impact in creative ways;
· Overseeing the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of ARASA’s work and the measurement of the impact of its work, including the development and consolidation of ARASA’s programmatic quarterly progress reports and annual narrative report;
· Coordinating the timely submission of all donor reports and assist the Director and Deputy Director in building and nurturing relationships with new and existing donors;
· Overseeing the effective management of grants awarded by ARASA to third parties;
· Contributing to the development and review of appropriate organisational strategies and policies as part of the senior management team;
· Assisting the Director and Deputy Director with resource mobilisation and ensuring compliance with all contractual matters related to the various donors and other applicable laws and regulations;
· Working with the Director, the Deputy Director and Finance Manager in overseeing the financial management and operational matters for programme activities; and
· Assisting the Director, the Deputy Director and Finance Manager with compiling annual programme work plans and budgets and ensuring that programme spending is in line with approved budgets.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in law, public health, human rights or associated field. Appropriate experience may be considered in place of a degree. In addition, the candidate will have at least three years of senior management experience and/or a proven record of effective leadership and performance in a supervisory role, extensive experience and knowledge of health and human rights (with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights), social justice and human rights advocacy in Southern and East Africa.
Knowledge of donor funding strategies and experience in undertaking successful fundraising and resource mobilisation efforts, understanding of global and regional development trends, and experience in people management, motivating teams and conflict management is also essential.
The candidate must have advanced computer literacy and basic skills in public relations, communications (including social media) and fundraising and strong networking capacity in a variety of spheres. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a diverse team are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication, research, problem solving and analytical skills are required. Fluency in English is a prerequisite and knowledge of Portuguese or French is desirable.
ARASA offers an attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate must be able to travel extensively in the region, Africa and internationally. They must also be able to live and work in Windhoek, Namibia or Cape Town, South Africa.
