The Attorney General’s Chambers is an extra Ministerial Department under the Ministry of Justice. It exists to prosecute all criminal cases at the public instance, defend or settle civil cases on behalf of Government, draft legislation, negotiate and draft commercial and international agreements and provide sound legal advice to Government, in a prompt, professional and responsible manner. The Attorney General’s Chambers invites applications from suitably qualified visionary, self- driven and results oriented Botswana Citizens for the following permanent and pensionable position tenable at the Headquarters in Gaborone:
VACANCY: Safety, Health and Environment Coordinator – SHEC
VACANCY CODE: 130100358.1.1
SALARY SCALE: D1 (P334, 188.00 – P368,544.00 per annum)
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum.
BENEFITS:
- Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and Employee pays 50%).
- Contributory Pension Fund Scheme (Government pays 15%, Employee 5%). QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of twelve (12) years relevant work experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety, of which two (2) years has been served at D2 level or equivalent.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To offer a comprehensive safety, health and environment program by creating a conducive physiological and psychosocial workplace environment for employees.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Partnerships and Collaboration
- Collaborates with key stakeholders on health, safety and environment service delivery in the Department.
- Liaises with different stakeholders to test for different illnesses.
- Information Dissemination
- Disseminates program information including research findings to customers and key stakeholders.
- Provision of Health and Safety Services
- Provides advice, information, training and education on occupational health, safety and hygiene and on ergonomics and protective equipment.
- Increases awareness on gender, health, safety and environment programs as well as conduct screening for different ailments such as chronic and non-communicable diseases.
- Educates employees on healthy living by implementing life skills programs, SHE codes and safety standards such as office inspections, physical exercise and healthy eating.
- Monitors the Health status of employees and make appropriate referrals.
- Provides psychosocial support during bereavement and celebrations and visits the regional offices to monitor implementation of the health and safety program.
- Provides a comprehensive treatment care and support: psycho-social support, referral system, directly observed therapy and basic life support and emergency services.
- Healthy Safe Workplace ^Identifies and assesses risks from health hazards in the workplace and provides solutions for mitigation.
- Establishes strategic linkages with health services stakeholders for prevention, treatment, care and support.
- Develops and implements health and safety program in line with Public Service guidelines and National Health Policy.
- Provides advice on planning and organisation of work and working practices, including the design of work environment and maintenance of equipment.
- Assesses workers health in relation to the productivity or work.
- Conducts workplace inspections, produces reports and monitors implementation of recommendations.
- Wellness
- lmplements Information, Education and Counselling services (IEC).
- Implements behavioural changes programs through Ministry of Youth, Men and Women sector programs.
- Invites internal and external facilitators, during encouragement sessions, workshops and trainings to promote healthy living.
- lmplements physical fitness, nutrition, psychosocial and rehabilitation programs.
- Develops and maintains sound operational guidelines for the Department, based on established Public Service employees wellness guidelines, Safety Policy and HIV/ AIDS Policy.
- Mainstreaming of cross cutting issues
- Coordinates the process of mainstreaming the intersection of cross cutting issues on health, safety and wellness programs into the Department’s Strategic Plan.
7. Finance
a.Determines health and safety work place budget estimates.
b.Sources funds from government and other implementing partners.
c. Monitors utilization of program funds for the Department’s programmes.
