mission and work of Young love by developing and implementing an ongoing marketing plan, managing Young love’s
branding, online presence, and external communications. The Communications Officer also works across departments to
support program branding, event planning, and advocacy initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Marketing and Communications 85%
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and organizational leaders, develop and implement an annual comprehensive marketing plan, working to build awareness and connections through diverse communications channels.
- Design, production and project management for creation of publications and collateral including the Annual Report and organizational merchandise.
- Manage Young love’s website (Wix), social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedln, Vimeo), newsletter (Mailchimp), to build community support and engage the community on topics relevant to our mission.
- Collect, create, and distribute meaningful stories, content, images, videos, information and talking points for Young love’s presentations and collateral.
- Assist the Senior Advocacy Officer in engaging local media including building relationships with media contacts, drafting and distributing press releases/news articles, and coordinating interview requests and media attendance at Young love events.
- Develop and explore creative and innovative ideas to address communications and marketing challenges.
- Maintain the organizational blog with compelling articles, reflection pieces and updates.
- Support community building activities like World AIDS Day, Month of Youth Against AIDS, Literacy Day, etc.
- Support organizational events including stakeholder visits, advisory forum, staff retreat, farewell parties, etc.
- Track media mentions and Internet traffic, measure public impact of activities, and provide regular reports to the Advocacy and Communications Manager.
Advocacy 15%
- Work with the Advocacy and Communications Manager to develop, maintain and forward advocacy positions adopted by Young love.
- Research laws and policies to inform advocacy positions.
- Promote advocacy positions through marketing initiatives including local media outreach, blog posts and community engagement.
- Engage and maintain communication with other NGOs working on the same topics.
Required Skills
- Fluency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Indesign, Illustrator, Spark, Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro CC) required.
- Relationship building skills and external-facing relations including customer/client or PR experience, preferred.
- Photography/videography experience required.
- Strong writing skills for various platforms and audiences including blog posts, newspaper articles, and newsletters.
- Proficiency with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedln) and metric tracking software.
- Event planning and project management experience.
