Job Purpose


  • Provide Technical Leadership to the Peripheral Support team
  • Provide  development with respect to Peripheral systems where required
  • Provide technical support on all systems under Peripheral portfolio to users across the bank.
  • Ensuring that the requisite functionality is provided for all systems supported


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities


• Provide Technical Leadership to the Support resources looking after peripheral applications
• Facilitate effective transfer of skills and knowledge to the support team
• Maintain UAT, DR and production environments
• Maintain availability and integrity of applications supported
• Troubleshoot failures on all channels systems and escalate to Level II and Vendor where necessary
• Reviewing and installation of new releases of software, service packs and patches
• Monitoring applications and ensuring they perform optimally
• Monitoring and managing database backups and restorations
• Undertake major database change management procedures
• Perform database planning activities: including capacity planning, security and integrity planning
• Undertake performance tuning, index generation and view creation and maintenance according to country/group requirements for production/UAT and Testing environments
• Ensure all after hours support is provided in line with Service Level Agreements to ensure customer satisfaction
• All faults/incidents to be resolved within agreed SLAs and escalation of faults/incidents to Manager Application Support and Development and/or Vendor as necessary
• Monitor and manage user activity
• Monitor systems, Oracle Databases, storage capacity and ensure these are within optimum limits
• Verify data integrity by executing predefined system checks
• Coordinate routine systems clean ups and other database/file management activities to ensure optimum system performance
• Ensure Call logging on Team Track for all after hours calls, provide resolution and escalate where necessary
• Participate in project implementations
• Coordinate implementation of changes on Live, Contingency and DR systems where necessary
• Ensure all user related changes within the portfolio are implemented within agreed SLAs and outstanding changes are kept to a minimum
• Prioritise faults/incidents and allocate appropriate resources for resolution
• Perform DBA administration functions

Preferred Qualification and Experience


• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems or related field
• Certification/Active Membership of a professional organisation would be an added advantage

• At least five years’ experience in any of the following areas: IT security, Infrastructure, Technical, support, Systems Administration, Applications support, Electronic Banking/Channels Support, Programming, Database Administration, Systems Analysis
• Minimum three years’ experience in technical leadership and or Management role
• Banking/financial industry experience would be an added advantage


Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

Technical Skills

  • Must have knowledge of the bank’s Core system
  • Knowledge of Oracle Database Administration
  • Technically competent with broad knowledge of systems management, development and implementation methods
