The Office of the District Commissioner is a statutory government office under Botswana’s Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. It operates in each of Botswana’s districts—including Gaborone, Francistown, and Maun—to coordinate local administration, implement national policies, and support community development. District Commissioners are appointed by the President of Botswana and serve as the chief executive officers of their respective districts. The office functions as the primary interface between central government and local communities across Botswana.
