The Earth Moving Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of heavy construction and earth moving machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. The role involves troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with manufacturer specifications and workplace safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for taking care of all parts and components of earth moving equipment, including tyres, mechanical components, hydraulic systems, power shift transmissions, electrical & fuel systems.
- Repair and maintain computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
- Conduct routine maintenance work aiming for vehicle functionality and longevity.
- Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and carry out.
- Repair, service and maintenance on Earthmoving Equipment and components to supplier standards and customer requirements.
- Cleaning, lubricating and successfully diagnose machine systems and carry out.
- Maintain all records and maintenance on Earthmoving Equipment.
- Perform major repair work when necessary.
- Ensure and maintain a safe work environment.
- Efficiently deal with all machine breakdowns.
- Control Contamination.
- Compile accurate customer machine analysis and reports including Machine Inspection Reports (MIRs) and Technical Analysis Reports (TARs).
- Control own admin (labor booking, service reports, part returns, expenses etc.).
Requirements
- NCC in Heavy Plant Mechanics/Fitter or equivalent.
- 5 years’ experience as an Earthmoving mechanic or Diesel mechanic.
- Equipment testing, calibration, and performance evaluation.
- Knowledge of OEM specifications and maintenance standards.
- Safety procedures and occupational health compliance.
- Maintenance documentation and reporting.
- Familiarity with different construction and mining equipment brands.
