Job Title: Junior Finance Specialist
Role Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Head of Finance, the Junior Finance Specialist carries out responsibilities and tasks to support the financial operations of the GIZ Country Office. The position seeks suitably qualified and innovative individuals who are agile, flexible, highly motivated, and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Support with invoice checking
- Record cash and bank transactions; prepare day-end/month-end closings
- Maintain office and project journals (local currency and EUR/USD as applicable)
- Upload digital vouchers and support voucher digitization/archiving
- Monitor payables/receivables and reconcile bank/cash books
- Ensure complete, timely, and correct filing of accounting documents.
- Travel expense handling, calculate, verify, and settle national/international travel claims
- Check ticket invoices and prepare periodic travel reports
- Tax and compliance – Prepare VAT refund claims
- Cooperation with Finance & Admin teams in the GIZ Botswana Portfolio to provide first-line support to projects on financial/accounting questions P+R
- Support the organization as needed with any other duties.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Finance and Accounting or a related field
- 1-2 years initial experience in the field
- Ensures compliance with standard practices, regulations statutes
- Outstanding knowledge of administration
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (erg. MS Office).
- Willingness to up-skill as required by the tasks to be performed corresponding measures are agreed with management
- Some knowledge of external commercial developments and emerging best practice
- Ability to clearly and concisely express ideas and concepts in written and oral form
- Ability to establish harmonious working relations in an international and multicultural environment.
- Outstanding office administration, management and organizational skills
- Service-oriented attitude
- Self-motivated, organized and pro-active team player, able to work independently with excellent output
- Knowledge of GIZ procurement and administrative processes (financial closure, inventory, filing etc.) is an advantage
