Job Title: ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) COMPLIANCE OFFICER (HOLLARD LIFE)
Job Purpose: The AML Compliance Officer is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an effective Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework within the business. The role ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and supports management in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risks. The role serves as the primary point of contact with regulators and provides independent oversight of AML/CFT controls to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the organisation’s AML/CFT compliance programme in line with applicable legislation and regulatory requirements
- Ensure ongoing compliance with requirements issued by relevant regulators
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely implementation of new and amended requirements
- Ensure submission of all required statutory returns and regulatory reports within prescribed timelines
- Promptly report any breaches of AML/CFT obligations to the relevant regulatory authorities in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Prevention and detection of money laundering and terrorist financing
- Ensure appropriate AML risk classification of customers and periodic reviews in line with regulatory requirements
- Oversee the adequacy and effectiveness of customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), and ongoing monitoring processes
- Conduct regular reviews of AML/CFT systems, controls, and policies to ensure continued effectiveness and regulatory alignment
- Review internal alerts, exception reports, and suspicious activity indicators
- Determine, based on available information, whether suspicious transaction reports (STRs) should be submitted to the Financial Intelligence Agency
- Maintain appropriate records of AML/CFT activities, investigations, and regulatory reporting
- Provide regular reporting to senior management and governance committees on AML/CFT compliance status and key risks
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulators on AML/CFT matters
- Facate regulatory inspections, audits, and information requests
- Provide guidance and support to business units to ensure effective implementation of AML/CFT controls
- Promote a strong compliance culture across the organisation through awareness and training initiatives
- Support the embedding of AML/CFT controls within business processes and systems
- Identify gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen the control environment
- Track and ensure timely remediation of audit and regulatory findings related to AML/CFT
- Lead, mentor, and develop staff to achieve high performance and a culture of accountability and teamwork.
- Ensure effective workforce planning, capacity building, and talent development.
- Foster a positive team culture grounded in continuous improvement and excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Risk Management, Finance, Business Management, or a related field
- Professional certification in AML/Compliance/Risk Management will be an added advantage (e.g., CAMS or equivalent)
- COP – Basics of Long-Term Insurance
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in AML/CFT, compliance, or financial crime risk management
- At least 5 years in a managerial or senior specialist role
- Experience within the financial services or insurance industry is preferred
- Strong knowledge of AML/CFT legislation and regulatory requirements
- Sound understanding of customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and reporting obligations
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to influence and embed compliance within business operations
