The Trustees of the Alexander Forbes Beneficiary Fund (“the Fund”) are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to serve on the Fund as a Member Trustee.

The Alexander Forbes Beneficiary Fund is a fund established with the objective of receiving, administering, investing and paying benefits on behalf of minor Beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrity and honesty: act at all times in good faith, with transparency, fairness and ethical judgement in the best interests of the Fund and its Beneficiaries.
  • Loyalty to Beneficiaries: place the interests of the Fund and its Beneficiaries above personal, employer, service-provider or other external interests.
  • Independence and objectivity: acting independently and exercising their powers impartially.
  • Prudence and diligence: apply reasonable care, skill and caution when considering investments, administration, governance matters and all decisions affecting the Fund.
  • Accountability and responsibility: participate actively in Board and Committee meetings, understand decisions taken and accept responsibility for the proper oversight of the Fund.
  • Confidentiality: safeguard confidential Fund, Beneficiary and Board information and use such information only for authorised Fund purposes.
  • Competence and continuous learning: maintain sufficient knowledge of the Fund Rules, applicable legislation, governance standards and relevant pension, investment and risk matters.
  • Fairness and effective communication: treat Beneficiaries impartially and ensure that appropriate information is communicated clearly regarding their rights, duties and benefits under the Fund.

Requirements

  • The candidate should be a Guardian of a Beneficiary in the Fund, BUT NOT an employee or Service Provider of the Alexander Forbes Botswana Group or any of its subsidiaries, nor a Trustee in any of the AlexForbes Sponsored Funds.
  • A formal qualification in, Investment Management, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Law, Banking, Business or equivalent qualifications such as Chartered Accountant, Chartered Finance Analyst or Fellow Risk Manager;
  • Certificate or Qualification in Retirement Funds or Insurance will be an added advantage;
  • Basic knowledge of the NBFIRA Act, Retirement Funds Act, and any other relevant legislation;
  • Sound knowledge of corporate governance.
  • A minimum of five (5) years managerial experience in managing pension funds or a background in Human Resource Management or experience as a Board member/trustee.
  • Ability to understand strategic issues, accept legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of a Trustee;
  • Be self-confident and able to participate meaningfully and objectively in discussions;
  • Will be expected to allocate sufficient time and commitment to fulfil the role; and
  • The individual must satisfy the requirements of a “Fit and Proper” individual for approval by the Non- Bank Financial Regulatory Authority (NBFIRA) to be a Trustee.
