Position: Community Engagement and Development Manager
Base Station: Hukuntsi, Kgalagadi
Summary of the position and responsibilities
Kalahari Research & Conservation (KRC) is a wildlife conservation and community upliftment NGO working southwestern Botswana in the Kgalagadi region. As part of its landscape conservation goal KRC works with several communities in the WMA’s adjacent to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park, implementing projects and creating employment to sustain livelihoods while reducing threats to wildlife. The Community Engagement and Development Manager candidate must be a self-driven individual with capacity to lead and manage all community conservation programs. The candidate will also on occasion be required to take part in the broader KRC wildlife conservation program, participating actively in research and wildlife activities as and when required.
Required experience and competencies
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with communities in conservation. A good background understanding of conservation issues within community development context.
- A team player who can blend well and assist other departments in achieving broader KRC
conservation goals. - The candidate must be able to work under pressure, be highly organized, and meet strict deadlines.
- Good presentation skills and ability to work with communities and other stakeholders in conservation at district level.
- A valid driver’s license with good 4×4 offroad skills
Qualifications
- Minimum B.Sc. or B.A. in community development or a related field. The possession of a masters in a relevant field will be an advantage.
- A background or experience in developing and implementing outreach, education, or public awareness campaigns related to environmental or wildlife issues for a variety of audiences will be an advantage.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills in both Setswana and English. Sekgalagadi language will be an added advantage.
- Proven ability to work well with diverse stakeholders.
- Skills to work with a team and build team spirit.
- Experience working and being in a bush environment.
