The project Manager takes accountability for the management of a programme of 100 or more small and medium operational projects, across a 5 year planning and execution cycle. The role includes taking responsibility for supervision of project teams responsible for managing the various projects from initiation through all the phases up to project closure, and consolidating and reporting inclusive of key KPIs on ECOHS, schedule and cost performance of the programme. This includes responsibility for setting up necessary project office organisation structures, project processes and supporting control systems to ensure capital is managed effectively and to align and leverage opportunities between the projects that make up the programme to maximise value to the organisation.
Minimum Requirements
Degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Automation and Instrumentation, Metallurgy
Project Management qualification.
Eight (8) years of experience in the following;
Construction / Engineering Project Management environment
Construction Management experience
General Management experience
Contractor Management
Mining industry and related operations environment
Pre appointment Training
Project Management training.
Safety health and environment training
Key Activities:
Develops an integrated 5 year budget for the Operation SIB as well as other capital projects programme to meet the operation’s business needs in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives and management of capital book in preparation for each board sitting by updating and aligning with all departments and ensuring all documentation in place for project closures, project revisions, project initiation and Investment proposals including prioritization and alignment with organizational
Manages and controls PMO allocated funds and Operation’s capital budget by developing cost improvement plans and operates within approved parameters and manages Category 1 & 2 portfolio work to optimise portfolio approved cash fl ow to achieve medium to long term organisational objectives.
Develops short to long term portfolio forecast and release portfolio projects according to prioritisation at appropriate board approval stages in line with portfolio management principles, company policies (Capital Management System/Investment Proposals), technical evaluation and industry standards.
Manages the allocation of projects to project managers, project engineers and other project leads and manages the project support services of the PMO and recruits and develops resources to ensure that they are capable and available to execute and support the all the projects. Carry out all Human Resource Management for entire PMO team of >100.
Analyses projects capital reports, compiles portfolio report, share the information with stakeholders. Ensures corrective action is implemented and applies continuous business process improvement of portfolio and project processes to improve project execution maturity within the PMO and across the operation
Tracks the realisation of project benefits, assesses impact on portfolio risks and opportunities and approves project capital changes within his/her delegated authority.
Supervises project teams giving the necessary support and coaching to ensure efficient project delivery in line with approved baselines reporting at programme level to GM on monthly basis and direct supervision of 10 Upper GBF 6 Project Managers, 3 Lower GBF 6 Project resources and taking overall responsibility for PMO team with 60 GBF employees and 40 B-C Band employees.
Monitors and supervises management of ECOHS performance for PMO projects and drives programs to ensure ECOHS performance within the organizational objectives and drives continuous improvement reporting at program level and ensuring compliance of the PMO to ISO and OHSAS standards in line with the rest of the organisation
