Overview of role
You will provide leadership to the Corporation’s strategic plans in order to implement strategic initiatives and projects in line with WUC mandate and Botswana’s water policy. Key deliverables include: strategy development and strategic planning; innovation enablement; risk management; strategic projects monitoring and tracking; stakeholder management; people management and ensure adherence to statutory compliance and governance.

Job description
Strategy Development & Strategic Planning Framework
- Supports the CEO by developing the strategy-setting framework for the Corporation in order to ensure alignment in the approach across all departments
- At a high-level, sets goals and decision making parameters based upon an analysis of organisational strengths and objectives, examining market and industry sector dynamics and determining corporate direction in order to increase opportunities for success
- Leads the integration of strategy to short and long range revenue forecasts and the corporate financial model for sustainability
Water Utilities Innovation Enablement
- Champions the innovation agenda at WUC
- Establishes and chairs an Innovation Committee for high impact initiatives across the Corporation
- Approves business cases for the high impact initiatives at WUC in order to drive operational excellence and increase revenue
Corporate Performance Monitoring & Strategic Projects Benefits Tracking
- Translates the Corporate Strategy into Corporate Performance Goals
- Oversees the development of a WUC wide Corporate Scorecard that ensures delivery on the corporation and individual Department strategies
- Establishes and leads the corporate performance tracking and reporting practice
Stakeholder Management
- Identifies key external stakeholders of the Corporation and facilitates the development of the effective stakeholder management strategies
- Supports the CEO as the Corporation’s strategic stakeholder liaison, in particular shareholder and key customers using the holistic knowledge of the business’ operations, strategy and performance
- Supports the Departments with key business insights and strategic focus at engagements with key stakeholders, in particular, inter-ministerial and/or inter-governmental projects
Enterprise Risk Management Oversight
- Accountable for maintenance of a positive risk status for the Corporation
- Oversee the development and execution of the Corporation’s enterprise – wide risk management strategy
- Oversee the mitigation of security and fraud – related risks across the Corporation

Requirements, Education and Experience
This role requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Commerce, Management, Business Administration along with post-graduate qualification in strategic management, business management, finance, economics or related. A minimum of 10 years’ experience with at least 6 years in senior management with technical environment, business management, strategy consulting or utilities is required.
