JOB SUMMARY
The role and responsibility of the Maintenance Engineer – Production is to maintain the assets and provide equipment performance to ensure safe, sustainable production.
The Maintenance Engineer – Production coordinates and executes engineering maintenance and project activities in the designated sections. In order to do so the Maintenance Engineer – Production develops and maintains the maintenance plan.
Key to this role is the implementation of the Asset Management programme with a focus on people (building capacity and capability) and high-value processes

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in an Engineering discipline – Mechanical, Electrical or Control & Instrumentation
- 7 years post qualification Eng. experience in a heavy engineering environment post EIT programme Asset Management training
- ERB Registration with valid practicing certificate
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyses the function’s financial needs
- Develops budget and ensures financial resources are sufficient to meet business needs
- Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters
- Coordinates the implementation of short/medium term Asset Management initiatives
- Aligns Asset Management initiatives to the Mine Strategic Plan
- Develops and reviews short/medium term maintenance, project and developmental requirements for the section
- Develops the maintenance plan in collaboration with the Asset Management Engineer – Production
- Ensures compliance by:
- Aligning performance standards and objectives to the mine’s overall plan
- Analysing trends on equipment performance
- Implements, coordinates and executes Asset Management programme initiatives
- Implements standards, procedures and practices
- Implements the Asset Management Plan and develops necessary procedures
- Manages and controls the Engineering function at sectional level by:
- Developing and revises sectional procedures
- Assessing operational performance (e.g., plant throughputs, machine availability)
- Researching and evaluates maintenance processes expenditure
- Implementing changes as required (e.g., new/ improved technology requirements)
- Oversees and coordinates the appropriate execution of the maintenance plan by the Maintenance Coordinators and Maintenance Dispatchers
- Coordinates the Asset Management programme implementation
- Implements and improves Asset Maintenance high-value processes in line with the Asset Management programme:
- Defect Elimination
- Work Management
- Condition Monitoring
- Contractor management
- Pulls support from Reliability section for:
- Implementation of high-value processes
- Coaching on high-value processes
- Performance measurement
- Identifying poor equipment performance
- Developing and implementing solutions for poor performance
- Performs life cycle costing and equipment criticality classification exercises to assess best practices for
- Replacement and inventory control
- Service, repair and reconditioning
- Decommissioning and disposal
- Ensures that upgrades and enhancements of equipment/machinery are performed effectively
- Performs over-inspections on equipment and takes action on identified faults
- Ensures top risks are identified and mitigations plans in place and reviewed periodically
- Builds up capacity and capability by assessing and improving skills and resourcing within the function
- Initiates, monitors and controls short term minor sectional projects
- Coordinates and controls projects by
- Assessing proposed solutions
- Coordinating, monitoring and advising on project plans and expenditure
- Managing projects risks
- Updates and coordinates the implementation of Asset Management standards and procedures
- Attends to administrative functions of the department
- Ensures the availability of performance reports and statistics
- Ensures the risk log and scorecards are up-to-date
- Sets, monitors and reviews performance of subordinates
- Reward high performance and give feedback on poor performance
- Implements knowledge management principles
- Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
- Oversees the implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives
- Builds capability and capacity in Engineering by
- Developing and implementing career plans, succession plans and training plans
- Recruiting and on-boarding of direct subordinates
- Effectively manages own development
- Ensures provision with correct development opportunities
- Manages and coordinates the implementation of safety, health and environmental programme in area of responsibility

- Know and understand the risk profile for his / her area of responsibility
- Adhere to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation in area of responsibility
- Ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental standards
