Job Purpose

To effectively litigate matters in which the Corporation is a party, provide secretarial service to the Board-Sub Committees and the Management Executive Committee as well as provide general legal advice to the Corporation.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Legal
- Takes responsibility for managing and delivering a designated legal case work program in order to achieve prescribed outcomes.
- Provides accurate and timeous legal services and advice to the business in the form of legal opinions, advice, drafting of legal instruments, i.e. Agreements, legal representation in negotiations and litigation and overall enforcement of legal provisions to ensure compliance by the Corporation.
Document Preparation
- Organizes and prepares complex documents by using multiple computer applications (such as Microsoft Office), while also gathering and summarizing data for special reports.
- Prepares board papers, periodic progress reports, monthly litigation report and annual reports on legal issues.
- Records, keeps minutes and resolutions including communicating decisions of the Board, Board-Sub Committees and the Management Executive Committee to the relevant offices including effective filing and management of access control to the official EXCO documents.
- Ensures adequate and efficient secretariat support services for the Board, Board-Sub Committees and the Management Executive Committee, this includes preparation of meeting agendas, meeting invitations, facilitation of meeting documents and minutes.
Compliance
- Identifies shortcomings in current compliance processes, systems and procedures; develops ad hoc solutions to immediate problems within assigned unit and/or discipline.
- Manages the general meeting logistics and liaise closely with the General Corporate Counsel on requirements for the Board, Board-Sub Committees and the Management Executive Committee.
Research
- Delivers prescribed outcomes and/or supports others by carrying out designated research activities using existing systems and protocols.
Knowledge Management
- Delivers prescribed outcomes for area of responsibility by working within established knowledge management systems.
Internal and External Communications
- Executes a communications plan by working within established communication systems and procedures.
Policy Development & Implementation Recommendations
- Delivers prescribed outcomes by working within established procedures.
- Advises managers how to apply a wide variety of existing procedures and precedents.
Solutions Analysis
- Analyzes specified problems and issues to find the best technical and/or professional solutions.
- Safety, Health and Environment
- Delivers own prescribed outcomes and/or provides support services by using the organisations safety, health and environment systems and protocols.

Qualifications
JobQualification
- A minimum of a relevant degree – Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised university.
- MBA or a Business Administration qualification will be an added advantage.
- Admission to practice in the courts of Botswana
Experience
JobExperience
- At least minimum of four (3) years as a practicing Attorney.
- Vast/ extensive experience in Civil Litigation and Commercial Law Practice.
