To manage and deliver technical investigations, research, development and conceptual design and feasibility of mine plans using innovative and technologically focused initiatives to drive Debswana towards mining industry best practice.
Minimum Requirements
- Mining Engineering Degree
- Seven (7) years post qualification mining experience with at least Two (2) years planning at Mining Engineer level or higher (exclusive of production experience)
- Computer engineering or programming qualifications will be an advantage
- Middle Management Development Program
- Membership of recognized Engineering Board/Body
Key activities
- Analyses the options available to develop budgets and ensure sufficient financial resources to meet business and project needs
- Manages and controls allocated funds and operates within approved parameters.
- Develops and implements the mining and technology strategies for Projects to optimize the business’s medium and long term plans
- Analyses technology and operating trends in the mining industry, assessing their possible impact on the Project delivery and mine production outcomes
- Investigates, designs and specifies operating models, practices and methods to enhance mining and downstream efficiencies in line with industry trends
- Initiates, constructs and assesses models to test and develop the most appropriate planning and operating options to maximize safety and economic benefit over time for Debswana
Researches and coordinates Mine-to-Mill activities and projects in the Projects team for the Mining Discipline
- Develops and co-ordinates implementation of standards by liaising with other operations and suppliers nationally and internationally to ensure adoption of best practice mine planning activities.
- Ensures compliance to statutory requirements as stipulated in the Mines, Quarries, Machinery Regulations and other statutory requirements by putting in place procedures and policies to be followed.
- Conducts audits on existing processes and procedures and recommends appropriate action for continuous improvement
- Identifies and manages the implementation of and adherence to legal and corporate governance principles/requirements
- Coordinates & manages the Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures in area of responsibility as well as compliance to the statutory requirements such as stipulated in the Mines, Works, Quarries and Machinery Act (MWQM)
- Oversees the implementation of the departmental talent management initiatives by ensuring the right competence and effectiveness of manpower (capacity building) through developing and implementing career, localization/succession, training and development plans; recruiting and placing engineers
- Manages key effectiveness areas of subordinates by setting, monitoring and reviewing performance and taking remedial action as necessary.
- Implements knowledge management principles through application of tools and methodologies to continuously improve and sustain business performance
- Identifies and implements creative and innovative ideas to continuously improve and sustain business performance
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of business objectives
