Tenable at Debswana Corporate Centre Job Summary
To identify and develop value adding alternatives and options for Debswana future mines through conceptual and prefeasibility studies including the transition from open pit to underground mining based on the available kimberlite resources. To design and schedule Debswana dumps for the life of Debswana mines, including the application of technology and innovation.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- Eight (8) years post-graduation experience, including open pit and underground production experience at middle management level.
- Registration with Botswana Engineers Registration Board.
Pre Appointment Training
- Middle management training
- Good Knowledge of applicable mine planning software e.g. GEMS, Datamine, Whittle
- Good knowledge of applicable mining and environment laws for open pit and underground mines
Key Activities
- Financial: Interprets departmental objectives, needs, and changes in the micro and macro environment and ensures resources are put in place to meet these in the medium to long-term.
- Strategic Planning & Design: Carries out conceptual and pre-feasibility studies on known resources by optimizing the reserve to determine viability of projects; Determines the optimal mining block that maximizes the NPV for a given pipe and or mine; Determines the Open Pit to Underground transition- Project Scheduling; Determines and selects appropriate mining methods for the underground mines; Designs underground layouts and produce schedules for u/g studies carried out; Investigates, analyses and makes recommendations on major design criteria e.g. hoisting (shaft size, location & depth), access, ground handling, pumping, equipment selection, ventilation, mining rates etc.; dump designs; life of mine dump scheduling;
- Project Management Capability: Ensures adherence to approved project management principles; Compiles project charters, scopes of work, reports and decision notes as pertaining to the prefeasibility studies carried out.
- Corporate Governance & statutory compliance: Ensures that all statutory design obligations are met in a professional and timely manner and that the design is in line with OH&S standards; Compiles scopes of work to adjudicate tenders for the design, consulting and EPCM work for the Prefeasibility studies.
- Customer relationship Management: Ensures that internal and external stakeholders are kept abreast of the latest developments; Advices on Resource Extension Projects timelines and deliverables that influence U/G projects; Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with mining contractors, consultants, suppliers and peers.
