Takes accountability for the planning, management and delivery of large complex technology studies and implementation projects integrated with mining expansions through:
- Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the project team, contractors and construction workforce.
- The development and execution of a comprehensive integrated plan (for the scope of work) incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions and in line with Debswana standards.
- Set-up of required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter.
- Challenging the status quo and demonstrating effective leadership of cross-functional teams in the Debswana values.
- Reliable transparent reporting of process to stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Geology, Mining, Metallurgy.
- Qualification in project management
- Ten (10) years’ experience in Project Management environment, Construction management, general management, Contractor Management and Project Execution in Mining and related operations environment, four (4) of which should have been as Senior Project Manager.
- Registration with a Professional Body.
Pre appointment Training
- Investigating root causes of safety incident on projects (ICAM, Review of Safety Management Plans, etc.)
- Management development program

Key activities
- Develops integrated, cross-functional Project Execution Plans (PEP) including but not limited to the following:
o Scope definition (Detailed work breakdown structure) o Execution Strategy
o Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Operational Readiness plans o Detailed Schedule and Estimate o Project Controls and Change Management plans o Risk, Quality and S&SD plans o Stakeholder and Communication plans o Close-out Plan
- Sets-up Project for success, taking cognizance of, inter alia:
o Alignment on roles and responsibilities with senior leadership and client (operations) o Performance orientated agreements with external partners
o Project safety initiatives and reward and recognition programs including personal involvement in recognition opportunities o Sets and holds each member of the project team accountable for achieving Behavior Based Safety (BBS) targets (such as safety interactions) o Establishment of project controls aligned to execution strategy
o Delineation of controls responsibilities to ensure owner interests are sufficiently protected o Alignment on roles and responsibilities with all team members o Understanding of expectations of all influential external stakeholders o Adjustment of the project safety program for feedback from project safety trends revealed by leading indicators
- Ensures transparent reporting of progress supported by:
o QA of the data collection process o Analysis and interpretation of root cause of variance
o Remedial actions to rectify or alternatively substantiated forecasted impact to the project
- Provides effective leadership and management of cross-functional team to deliver project against objectives as defined in the project charter by:
o Driving and verifying the documented risk assessment process from the project/business level down to construction safety, o Reinforcing the Zero Harm objectives of the project through being present at safety inductions and site pre-start and tool box meetings o Participating in all project safety incident investigations, leading when appropriate o Holding responsible persons accountable for completion of safety actions before due date o Implementing root cause identification and behavior modification in preference to disciplinary action
