The primary responsibility of the role is to polish diamonds according to set standards in order to meet company targets. The Polisher works closely with their section Department Manager ensuring that they follow procedures and that diamonds are polished and/or bruted to the required standards and quality while at the same time achieving targets. He/she is responsible for all diamonds and equipment supplied by the company for this purpose.

• Polishes and/or brutes diamonds, ensures that they meet individual targets and contribute overall to the section production target.
• Responsible for keeping their scaife, tools, and/or equipment in perfect operating condition. This means following standard operating procedure and section Department Manager’s and or quality controls feedback.
• Informs section Department Manager whenever corrective actions of a quality and/or productivity nature arise.
• Ensures Key areas are accurate tang levelling, bruting/coning machine calibration, angle control, elimination or reduction of naturals, polishing to correct proportions, symmetry, facet smoothing, centering and roundness. Emphasis on “doing it right the first time” in every part of the operation is key.
• Assess their own product and consider it finished when they assure themselves the
stone is polished to company standards.
• Improving his/her own assessment is accomplished by taking the necessary corrective actions required from the stone-by-stone feedback the Department Manager and/or quality control provide.
• Checks the parameters of each stone to be polished to ensure that product specifications are met in all areas. He/she makes sure that necessary steps are taken to maximize the value vs. outcome of the stone.
Key skills required:
• Good working knowledge of basic polishing tools.
• Should know how to polish Princess, Cushion, Radiant, Emerald, Oval, Pear shapes
• Basic spoken English and basic English writing ability.
• Understand the principals of basic quality control.
• Attention to detail
• Teamwork
• Integrity
Qualifications required:
BGCSE, Prospective candidates should be highly numerate.
Experience
At least 4 – 5 years’ experience in the diamond cutting & polishing industry with expertise in EX, VG and G makes.
