Country Manager – AECOM

Job Summary

The Country Manager, Botswana is instrumental in designing the country strategy and annual business plan working in conjunction with all End Markets of AECOM, Africa.

The role will report to the Civil Infrastructure Managing Director Africa, with clear accountability for spearheading the business development initiatives and project implementation consistent with the overall growth strategy for AECOM.

The role is considered to be hands on in the pro-active identification, expansion and opportunity management of new market range in Botswana. This will involve strategic analysis of market trends, opportunities and pro-active project pursuits including implementing best practice client management programs with a specific focus on pursuits of a scale aligned with AECOM’s current and desired market position in Botswana. Including overall supports to the achievement of cost of sales, gross margin, backlog, and other related financial and business goals in Botswana,

 

Works with Regional Market Sector Leaders, End Market Leaders and Country/Region Growth Directors to achieve strategic business growth targets. Builds strong relationships and interacts regularly with key existing and new clients, teaming partners, industry groups and stakeholders linked to the region. Coordinates efforts within Botswana and across all business lines. Serves as an ambassador for AECOM.

The role is also to act, where appropriate, as the project implementation lead, responsible for the overall project management, delivery, performance, quality and safety on select Botswana based new and existing projects. Including continuously interacting with key clients assuring satisfaction with AECOM services and interacting with project managers to ensure any service issues are identified and addressed in a proactive manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the AECOM Africa Leadership Group in the development and regular update of the Botswana business plan
  • Works in conjunction with the Africa Leadership Group to grow a profitable business to ensure financial success of the country by developing and implementing strategic growth plans.
  • Internal and external communication, client relationship management as well as public relations
  • Provides industry leadership across all market sectors and business lines, and leads the sales planning process for the country across all business lines.
  • Provides guidance to business development, market sector, account management and other support staff.
  • Lead project implementation on projects in Botswana where required.

  • Identify opportunities for submittals, responses, interviews, presentations, and related activities
  • Is a member of the Region Management Team, focused on optimizing the overall performance of the region.
  • Directly Reports to the CI Managing Director, Africa.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years related experience, 10+ years proven track record of managing related infrastructure projects, including at least 8 years of progressive business development, operations management and/or staff management, in a multidisciplinary business.

Additional Comments:

This is a senior management position that carries with it the associated responsibilities, with crucial deadlines, progress goals and long hours. It also carries a high degree of responsibility and decision making ability.

  • Must be willing to travel regularly in Botswana and Africa.
  • Preferably to be based in Gaborone, Botswana office of AECOM Africa – Botswana.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration with the Engineers Registration Board of Botswana.

  • Relevant Master’s degree would be an advantage.
