Responsible for developing and leading a team; providing expertise and applying geotechnical principles to underground mine design challenges and surface infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement best practices in geotechnical engineering, assist with mine design, dewatering, and mining operations to ensure safety and achieve business objectives.
- Carry out geotechnical/geological inspections, mapping, and documentation.
- Supervise and work with drilling and geotechnical instrumentation installations.
- Collect, process, analyze and model geotechnical/geological characteristics of the various rock mass for support of the surface and underground mine.
- Process, analyze, and model data to understand the rock mass and its response to mining for purposes of excavation stability, mine design optimization, mine performance, and design compliance and geological database management.
- Conduct geotechnical/geologic mapping, sampling, monitoring, and reporting to support site needs and corporate obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly monitoring reports.
- Responsible for implementing and enforcing the requirements of the Ground Control Management Plan.
- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering.
- 10 years of experience in tailings impoundments, waste rock piles, and mine reclamation, dam construction.
- Mining experience pre-requisite.
- Working knowledge of a mining-based software preferable (Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, etc…) as well as geotechnical software.
- Rock science software desirable.
- AutoCAD advantageous but not a pre-requisite.
- Geotechnical Engineering input.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- PMP / PRINCE II certification is an added advantage.
- ERB Registration or equivalent to register with the Board.
- Executive Development Programme is an added advantage.
- Slope stability analysis, infiltration/seepage analysis, deformation analysis.
- Geo-civil analysis, rock mass characterization, geotechnical design.
- Work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize work, handle pressure, and highly organized.
- Contract management and major mining operational experience.
- Proactive with a commercial appreciation and work experience in project management, open pit planning and production and base metal mining environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Cost management and focused on delivery of a safe coal mining project.
