Appointment to these positions will be on a Permanent and Pensionable terms.
To assume responsibility of managing a team of legal practitioners and paralegals in a Legal Aid Botswana service centre and to represent legal aid clients in civil litigation suits and provide guidance to Legal Aid Counsels and Legal Aid Officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertakes litigation on behalf of Jlegal aid clients.
- Drafts court documents and conducts legal research.
- Facilitates the case management processes and prepares heads of arguments.
- Assesses and recommends out of court settlements.
- Monitors and ensures progress of cases.
- Attends court for judgement.
- Lodges or responds to an appeal where necessary.
- Negotiates settlement and contractual agreements.
- Consults with clients to get full instructions and develop positions.
- Drafts complex contracts and agreements.
- Renders legal advice on complex matters.
- Conducts in-house training and facilitates orientation programmes.
- Monitors performance and provide guidance to junior staff in adherence to Legal Aid Botswana standards.
- Attends various Legal Aid Botswana meetings to advice on legal matters.
- Evaluates subordinates’ work performance by helping to prepare and deliver annual reviews and performing coaching sessions.
- Monitors quality of service delivered to clients.
- Undertakes any other related tasks as required to meet exigencies of the service.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in law.
- Candidates must have been admitted to practice in the Courts of Botswana in terms of Legal Practitioners Act (CAP 61:01).
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of our (4) years’ experience in the field of Law and should have been admitted to practice in the courts of Botswana.
