The Role Responsibilities
- Develop, drive and execute the FM and TM Botswana business plan
- Responsible for the management and governance of the strategic agenda for FM & TM Botswana.
- Represent TM and FM at Country Management Team and ALCO for SCB Botswana
- Be the responsible person and key contact to the Bank of Botswana for TM and FM activities.
- Work with respective product heads and businesses in supporting SCB’s overall strategy
- Deepening client relationships, maximising revenue streams and asset utilization
- Responsible for developing new revenue streams in existing geographies
- To be responsible for Dealing room supervision of FM, TM and WMPS.
- This role is responsible for basic behavioural supervision of TM and WMPS staff in SCB dealing rooms. It is not responsible for any other risks related to the TM and WMPS business.
Strategy:
- Set the strategic direction of and oversee management of performance across Financial Markets in Botswana
- Continue to invest in our capabilities and markets to ensure we are staying ahead of the competition
- Develop Financial Markets Botswana specific strategies which maximize shareholder value and are aligned to and in furtherance of the overall strategic direction of Financial Markets
- Work with Product Heads to identify the initiatives to grow the franchise in South and Southern Africa
Business:
- Accountable for setting achievable FM Botswana performance targets relating to revenue and costs
- Manage the implementation of FM Botswana specific strategies and ensure that performance objectives and revenue goals are met and RWA targets managed
- Build stronger and deeper relationships with clients and government regulators by bridging silos across the other Products and Segments
- Enhance the Bank’s image and profile in the Botswana market and establish SCB as a “name” player in the respective local debt and Foreign exchange markets and up-tier SCB’s market presence.
- Active performance monitoring – spot areas of underperformance and take corrective action
- Drive new product migration and implementation as necessary
Processes:
- Accountable for establishing and maintaining frameworks to ensure FM Botswana business processes are efficient, appropriate and compliant with all internal and external regulations.
- Accountable for effective management of operational risks within FM Botswana.
- Ensure that all compliance and Local regulatory requirements are met as relates to TM and WMPS use of the Dealing room and reported as appropriate
People and Talent:
- Develop strategic resourcing approach with respective country HR to ensure robust identification, selection of key critical hires and development of appropriate talents across Botswana to deliver strategy
- Develop succession plan for self and key reports and support functions in the region
- Commit to diversity and inclusion principle in hiring approach
- Inspire people through leading by example and living the values
- Ensure that performance is also measured by reference to risk and control culture.
- Lead and reinforce strategic change and ensure the organization structure and people programs are aligned and geared towards the overall strategic direction of the FM and TM business in Botswana
- Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to FM Botswana team in order to ensure they are highly engaged and performing to their potential
Conduct:
- Provide leadership in Financial Markets Botswana , to comply with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. Understand and ensure compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines including those governing securities activities, company law, anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions; the Group’s policies and procedures; and the Group Code of Conduct. Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk and compliance matters.
- Embed the Group’s Values and Group Code of Conduct to ensure adherence with the highest standards of ethics. Comply with relevant policies, processes and regulations, as part of the culture.
- Lead by example by displaying exemplary conduct behaviours and take personal responsibility for:
- the conduct of individuals in Financial Markets Botswana, ensuring behaviours set out in the Group Code of Conduct are followed.
- Financial Markets Botswana achieving the outcomes set out in the Conduct Principals and Pillars.
- Both direct and indirect/dotted line managers are individually accountable to proactively communicate, collaborate and agree on the conduct ratings of employees.
- Provide supervisory oversight to the TM and WMPS Desk to ensure the Desk complies with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements in relation to use of the Dealing room.
- Identify issues that would be reasonably expected to be detected by someone physically present in the same location as the desk (for example, mobile phone use or suspicious behaviour etc)
- Understand and ensure compliance with, in letter and spirit, applicable laws, regulations and guidelines as relates to use of the dealing room; the Group’s policies and procedures; the Group Code of Conduct and the FM Code of Conduct
Risk Management:
- Embed operational risk management and reporting as an integral part of the business process.
- Ensure that adequate and appropriate systems and controls are in place to comply with Group and Business policies, procedures, standards and codes.
- Monitor all major risk issues and concentrations. Where appropriate, direct remedial action and/or ensure adequate reporting to Risk Committees
- Escalate to the Regional TM or the Global Head of WMPS any issues that might indicate that there is a lack of adequate or appropriate systems and controls are in place for the TM or WMPS Desk to comply with Group and Business policies, procedures, standards and codes
Governance:
- Promote an environment where compliance with internal control functions and the external regulatory framework is a central priority of the business
- Establish, maintain and supervise the framework to ensure business functions under my area of responsibility comply with internal policies, procedures, codes and applicable external laws and regulations and adhere to the expected high standards set out in the FM Code of Conduct
- Manage the implementation of FM Botswana specific strategies and ensure that performance objectives and long term economic profit (EP) goals are met
- Ensure the overall targets relating to budget are cascaded to teams with appropriate product targets and performance delivery on targets is proactively managed
- The FM Head will not be accountable for the Treasury Markets responsibilities which ultimately form part of the Senior Manager Responsibilities and thus do not form part of the FM Head line manager’s accountability
- Escalate to TM Regional management or the Global Head of WMPS all risks and issues identified that relate to the TM or WMPS Desks, and to local Country Management Team
- Promote an environment where compliance with internal control functions and the external regulatory framework is a priority of the TM and WMPS Desks in the Dealing Room.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Substantial experience in the banking industry and financial markets, including demonstrated success in a similar role
- Must possess sharp business acumen (including ability to assess risk and appropriate levels of return), strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and multi cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Ability to manage geographically dispersed and highly varied customer and product base
