The Water & Sewage Operator will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the water treatment and sewage treatment plants to ensure continuous supply of potable water and compliant discharge of treated wastewater, in accordance with environmental and health regulations at MMG Khoemacau Copper Mine.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating and monitoring water purification systems, reverse osmosis units, chlorination/disinfection units, and sewage treatment facilities.
- Performing routine checks on pressure, flow, chemical dosing, and other system parameters.
- Collecting water and effluent samples for testing and quality control.
- Conducting minor routine maintenance on pumps, valves, blowers, filters, tanks, and associated infrastructure.
- Identifying faults and coordinating with maintenance technicians to carry out repairs.
- Cleaning and flushing tanks, filters, and pipes as per schedule.
- Maintaining accurate logs of water consumption, chemical usage, and discharge volumes.
- Ensuring compliance with Department of Water Affairs (DWA) and Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) regulations.
Requirements
- National Trade Test B.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating water and sewage treatment systems, preferably in an industrial or mining environment.
- Knowledge of reverse osmosis, borehole systems, and biological sewage treatment technologies.
- Experience with SCADA or other monitoring systems is an advantage.
- A valid class B driver’s license and good driving record is a must for all positions.
