The BRCS invites applications for the position of Secretary General. The position is at tho level of Permanent Secretary.
The Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS) was established by an Act of Parliament as a neutral, impartial and Independent humanitarian organisation that is auxiliary to the Government of Botswana.
BRCS is NOT an NGO It is a National Society (NS) that was constituted on the basis of International and Domestic Law by virtue of the Government being signatory to the Geneva Conventions.
The mandate of the 8RCS as stipulated in the Act is to complement Government work on Health, Social Services and Disaster Management. The BRCS forms part of the international Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies which is the largest humanitarian network operating in 190 countries.
2. JOB SUMMARY
The Secretary General (SG) is the Chief Executive Officer of the BRCS.
Tho Secretary General is responsible for:
• Managing the operations of the National Society and ensuring compliance with approved policies, procedures and standards;
• Guiding and overseeing financial, personnel and administration functions
• Ensuring timeous reporting to the Donors, National Executive Committee (NEC) and International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC).
3. MAIN DUTIES
Human Capital Management
• Ensures a high performing BRCS with efficient operating systems and prudent financial Management
• Hiring and managing staff
• Ensures efficient and effective professional staff.
I. Leadership Role
• Represents BRCS at high level National. Regional and International fora and meetings
• Leads the implementation of BRCS Strategic goals
• Ensures effective networking, liaison and collaboration with all stakeholders (UN Family, Government of Botswana. Private sector. Local authorities. Media and communities).
• Serves as Board Sec rotary
II. Financial Management
• Leads the preparation and presentation of annual work programme and budgets.
• Assumes overall responsibility for adherence to financial policies and donor standards.
4. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
I. Education
• Degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Business Administration or Equivalent.
• Master s degree will be 3n added advantage.
ii. Experience
At least 10 years work experience in a senior position with the following competencies:
• Proven track record in managing Human and financial Resources
• Experience In Project Management and production of quality reports. Monitoring and Evaluation
• Demonstrated skills and experience in Strategic Plan Development
• Demonstrated fundraising experience
ill. Required Skills:
• Goal oriented
• Superior oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills in high level settings
• Skills to develop and maintain strong relations at all levels
• Ability to work under pressure
