This position provides first line, working supervision, leadership and technical oversight for field supervisors, construction contractors, and other personnel responsible for coordinating and inspecting all phases of contract work performed on the transmission substation and line construction in Botswana

Provide professional on-site supervising of the construction of a transmission substation and line project. Individual will be responsible for participating in site safety programs, quality inspections, schedule monitoring and reporting, tracking scope and cost changes, and communicating project status with the Aurecon Project Manager. The scope of projects varies, and can include transmission line projects, substation additions, and green field substation construction projects.

 

Will be held accountable for the leadership, direction, management and the execution of construction design build quality for projects in various locations.  The Site Supervisor assures that installations comply with the applicable plans, codes, standards, specifications and construction practices, including the timely completion and collection of inspection and test reports as required.

 

Main tasks:         

  • Act on behalf of the client by administering the contracts with the contractors.
  • Ensure that the work program and time schedule laid down for the completion of civil works and the erection of equipment will enable the installations to be commissioned in accordance with the commissioning dates, safety requirements and regulations.
  • Monitor actual construction progress on site against contractual schedules and determine what corrective action should be taken to expedite the works where necessary; issue the relevant change orders after approval by the client.
  • Be responsible for overseeing the field supervisors and scheduling of all line construction quality verifications and progress monitoring.

  • Prepare and issue site and field reports as well as monthly and quarterly progress reports.
  • Arrange regular meetings with contractors and the client to monitor and report on work progress.
  • Review the contractor’s policies and control procedures for carrying out the works.
  • Provide the client with any information they might need concerning the financial and contractual situation of the project.
  • Acceptance of temporary works, identification and analysis of work variations; studying and checking corrective measures.
  • Checking contractors’ resources on the project, in terms of people and equipment.
  • Coordination and supervision of all works carried out by the contractors on site including the interface with the existing systems.

  • Regular inspections to ensure that the following tasks are carried out properly and in compliance with the terms of the contract, specifications and drawings: (1) Checking equipment on arrival on site; (2) Local transportation; (3) Erection of new equipment and (4) Connections to the existing system.
  • Perform quantity surveys for evaluation of work progress and processing of work payments.
  • Check and process contractor’s invoices.
  • Review the program and schedules for site commissioning and energisation. 

    Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum 10 (Ten) years’ transmission/substation project supervision experience of substations and lines

  • Experience in working within a Profit and Loss (P/L) environment
  • Experience in overseeing quality control and construction engineering activities aligned with standards
  • Advanced technical knowledge within assigned LOB or construction specialty
  • Working knowledge of various transmission/ substation construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, and engineering drawings required
  • Desired

  • Must have transmission project site experience of 400kV substations and lines
