The Head of Geotechnical Engineering will be responsible for managing and coordinating the provision of an effective geotechnical service for sub-surface and underground operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing the medium to long term geotechnical plan aligned with business objectives, best practice, and the production plan.
- Formulating ground control management strategies.
- Providing geotechnical guidance and input into mine closure planning.
- Contributing to, reviewing, auditing, and signing off geotechnical databases and models.
- Reviewing annual and LOM plans to advise on the safest mining sequence using numerical modelling.
- Coordinating and reviewing geotechnical design and analysis for sub-surface excavations and underground structures.
- Developing ground support systems using engineered rock mechanic principles.
- Conducting ongoing audits of ground support conditions to ensure compliance with Company standards, procedures and government regulation.
Requirements
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. Degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering, or Full Rock Mechanics Certificate (COM). As an addition, a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (GDE) or Advanced Rock Mechanics Certificate (AREC) would be an Advantage.
- Applicant must have a minimum of 10 -15 years’ relevant experience in an underground mining environment
- At least 5 years’ experience in fully mechanized sublevel open stoping and stoping with consolidated backfill methods is essential.
- A valid class B driver’s license and good driving record is a must for all positions.
