Sandvik Botswana invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Field Service Technician. The successful candidate will provide technical field service support to customers through the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, repair and commissioning of Sandvik equipment at customer mine sites and workshop locations. The position reports to the Field Service Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned maintenance, inspections, breakdown diagnostics and repairs on Sandvik equipment in accordance with OEM standards and site requirements.
  • Conduct fault-finding on mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Complete commissioning, testing and equipment handovers as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely service reports, job cards, parts requests, timesheets and other technical documentation.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service and professionalism when working on customer sites.
  • Comply with Sandvik safety standards, customer safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, risk assessments, housekeeping rules and all applicable legal requirements.
  • Identify equipment performance issues, recurring faults and opportunities to improve reliability, availability and service quality.
  • Safeguard tools, test equipment, service vehicles and company property.
  • Participate in callouts, standby duties, overtime and travel to operational sites as required by the business.

Requirements

  • Recognized National trade qualification (NCC), diploma or equivalent technical qualification in one of the following or a related discipline: Heavy Plant Mechanics, Auto Electrical, Millwright, Fitting/Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in field service, heavy equipment maintenance, mining equipment support, plant maintenance or a similar technical environment.
  • Sound diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and service information.
  • Good report-writing and computer literacy skills.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and customer service.
  • Experience working with OEM or mining equipment in field service environments.
  • Previous exposure to Sandvik or similar equipment and systems.
  • Experience working at mine sites in Botswana or similar operating environments.
  • Familiarity with component change-outs, condition monitoring and root-cause fault analysis.
