Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications do I need to become a Patrolman/Driver at G4S Botswana?
You typically need a Botswana Senior Secondary School Certificate (BGCSE) or equivalent, a valid Botswana driver's license with appropriate classes, and a clean criminal record. A PSIRA registration or security training certificate is often preferred or required. Physical fitness and good communication skills in English and Setswana are essential.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Patrolman/Driver?
Daily duties include patrolling assigned areas in Francistown, Gaborone, Lobatse, or Moshupa to deter criminal activity and respond to alarms. You will transport security personnel, cash, or valuables as needed, complete incident reports, and maintain vehicle logs. Shift work including nights and weekends is standard in this role.
How does the work culture and employer expectations differ across locations like Gaborone versus smaller towns like Moshupa?
Gaborone operations tend to be larger-scale with more structured hierarchies and diverse client exposure, while Moshupa and Lobatse may involve closer community relationships and broader responsibilities due to smaller teams. Employers in Botswana generally expect punctuality, respect for authority, and strong loyalty regardless of location. Rural postings may require more self-reliance and flexibility with resources.
What career progression opportunities exist for Patrolman/Drivers at security firms in Botswana?
With experience and additional training, you can advance to supervisory roles like Patrol Supervisor or Operations Controller. Further progression to Area Manager or specialized positions such as Armed Response or Cash-in-Transit roles is possible. Some employers support further studies in security management through institutions like Botswana Open University.
What benefits are typically offered for security roles in Botswana?
Standard benefits usually include annual leave as per Botswana labour law, medical aid contributions, and pension scheme participation through the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund or private arrangements. Some employers provide uniform allowances, transport subsidies, or performance bonuses. Specific packages vary by employer and are often negotiated at hiring.
How should I apply for this role and what do Botswana security employers look for in candidates?
Submit your application through the employer's official careers portal or email with a clear CV, certified copies of your ID, driver's license, and academic certificates. Employers prioritize reliability, integrity, and verifiable references due to the sensitive nature of security work. Demonstrating knowledge of local areas and willingness to work flexible shifts strengthens your application.
