Our client in the mining industry is looking to employ suitably qualified candidates for the following position, based at the mine in Botswana. Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the finance and administration functions within the organisation encompassing financial planning, management and reporting.
Specification
Planning
• Assist in formulating strategies and measures as applicable and translating these into operational plans in line with the strategic objectives.
• Review, revise and develop systems and procedures to ensure implementation of any approved plans.
• Review, revise and implement sound accounting procedures and internal controls, and monitoring effectiveness. Financial accounting, management and reporting
• Develop budgets in collaboration with the General Manager and respective functional heads as and when required.
• Monitor expenditure on an ongoing basis including ensuring that sufficient funding is available to meet on-going requirements.
• Anticipate and control over/or under expenditure on the budget and take appropriate action to control the budget after consultation.
• Report on the budget performance to both internal and external stakeholders periodically including providing insightful explanations on variances.
• Monthly preparation of accurate management accounts/reports to agreed timescales.
• Review of balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis including sign off of the same and ensuring all financial data is well documented within the company and is accurate and up to
date, complete and reviewed.
• Produce other ad hoc financial reports as and when required by various stakeholders within reasonable timeframes.
• Ensure that all payments are made in a timely manner, in line with approved budgets, and are duly authorized and supported including efficiently managing all external contracts.
• Maintain current standing with all taxes such as PAYE, VAT, WHT etc. including timely remittances and submissions of related tax returns.
• Ensure procurement policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with all stakeholders such as functional or other department heads, suppliers/creditors, bankers, BURS, etc.
• Oversee any special projects as assigned from time to time including reporting on the same.
Payroll
• Manage the payroll system and ensure that accurate payments are made to employees, BURS, the staff pension fund, medical aid providers, and other third parties to set timetables.
• Prepare the payroll for senior staff members including ensuring timely payment and remittance of all related staff obligations.
People
• Ensure that finance staff are adequately trained, skilled and that their expertise is optimally applied including driving a culture of high performance.
• Implement performance management process for direct reports and ensure compliance
• Ensure the finance and administration department is adequately resource to execute its mandate effectively.
Safety
• Provide the leadership necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that are in line with the requisite industry standards and any applicable legislation.
Requirements
• B.Com or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA
• Registered member of BICA under Associate or Fellow category
• Minimum of ten years’ post qualification experience, five of which should have been at managerial level
• Experience in the Mining industry would be an added advantage.
