Introduction

Members of the public are invited to apply for the position of Network Officer tenable at the Computer Center.

Specification
The successful applicant will be responsible for the administration of the network systems of BBS Limited. The role will entail liaising with service providers, including Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) to ensure that computer networks are available. The person will assist with the exploration of new avenues for improving network availability and speed of the wide and local area networks, and submitting recommendations to the Infrastructure Manager. The position supervises the work of network staff in the installation or connection and maintenance of the network. The incumbent will also provide input into the formulation of disaster recovery plans.

The duties of the Network Officer will include –

• Supervising Technicians in the installation of network systems to increase operating efficiency or to adapt to information systems needs.
• Liaising with service providers and consultants for network availability and security.
• Implementing plans for the optimization of network speed and liaising with service providers for improvement and implementation.
• Ensuring that professional business relations are established and maintained with professional contacts and other stakeholders.
• Ensuring that the BBS Limited reputation is maintained and positively projected in dealing with service providers, consultants and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Required Academic Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Cisco’s CCNA is added advantage.

Required Experience

• Three to five years of computer operations experience.
• Required Knowledge and Competencies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Well organized.
• Good communications skills.
• Ability to assist and train others.
