An opportunity has arisen for the position of:

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – TENABLE IN LOBATSE

Main purpose of the Job:

To Co-ordinate, Manage and control preparation and production of accounts and Financial records over a major accounting function strictly in accordance with laid down BMC procedures and standards to ensure the accurate and timely processing and preparation of accounts.

This is a multi-skilled position and Senior Accountants will be required to work in any of the main functional areas within the department (e.g. Debtors, Creditors, Producers, Treasury, Management Accounts and stores Accounts.

General Responsibilities

• Establish operating procedures for section and agree accounting time tables and schedules to ensure timely reporting of management information.
• Supervises the processing and preparation of accounts to ensure they are prepared in accordance with laid down procedures and accounting timetables
• Provides technical advice to staff to ensure staff members are conversant with accounting standards.
• Implement a secure filling system to ensure security of all documentation.
• Coordinates performance management systems within the department to ensure staff are appraised within the required timelines.
• Disciplines staff in accordance with procedures to promote a favorable work culture.

Management Accounts

• Coordinates the preparation of operational budgets and forecasts to ensure budgets are prepared on time.
• Review costs of production reports to ensure cost of production calculations are correct
• Analyze costs in order to make recommendations for reduction in costs of production
• Prepares monthly management accounts and financial reports on management accounts with analysis of variance from management to ensure easy understanding of financial information for management.
• Assist with the preparation and consolidation of final accounts and annual financial statements and report.
• Co-ordinate audit activities for both internal and external auditors in order to answer audit queries and provide required information.
• Carries out special detailed analysis of management accounts as requested to satisfy stakeholders’ information needs.

Qualification and Experience Required:

•Degree in Accounting or Equivalent
•ACCA, CIMA or equivalent internationally recognized professional accounting qualification

Experience: At 7 years’ experience in supervision and control of a major accounting function in a large commercial/industrial environment
