ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (1 POSITION)

VACANCY NO:  FSS/ PS 2/ 2019    

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Population Studies and must have a solid background in substantive and technical demography; (ii) supervise undergraduate, Masters and MPhil/PhD research activities; (iii) engage in the development of scholarship through independent or joint publications; (iv) provide academic leadership in the department; (v) provide service to the university and the community and (vi) carryout any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) Masters’ Degree in Population Studies/Demography or related discipline; (ii) a PhD degree in Population Studies/Demography or a related discipline; (iii) at least 5 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution; (iv) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at least 12 publications, 8 of which should be reputed refereed journal articles; lead and/or single authored in at least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (v) evidence of service to University, the Profession and the Community; (vi) evidence of effective academic leadership; (vii) Evidence of attracting research grants, evidence of handling a large scale demographic survey data and working knowledge in SPSS / STATA / R will be added advantages. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc.
