To develop, coordinate and monitor Fire safety programmes and activities in order to minimise fire risks and to ensure compliance with BPC’s integrated SHEQ performance standards, best practice standards such as NFPA, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and statutory requirements.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Internal process
High level of SHER culture with zero tolerance to workplace incidents/accidents
To provide input in the development of and facilitate implementation of fire safety strategies and business plans in line with overall Corporate strategy and business plans.
Advises management on trends in fire prevention and suppression measures and changes in statutory fire regulations and ensures that systems are updated and functional.
Conducts fire risks assessment of buildings, plants and other corporation developments and makes recommendations on fire prevention and protection systems.
Coordinates fire risk assessments survey in line with BPC’s integrated SHEQ performance standards.
Ensure that risk assessment queries and deviations are actioned
Drafts fire defence system budgets for approval by the Enterprise Risk and Claims Superintendent
Coordinates regular maintenance of all fire systems to ensure operational readiness and serviceability.
Develops fire contingency plans including evacuation procedures to ensure emergency preparedness.
Prepares and submit periodic reports (monthly, quarterly and annual) on fire prevention, incidents and other departmental activities to Enterprise Risk and Claims Superintendent.
Provides input in development of SHER standards relating to fire risks.
Identifies fire training needs and prepares training material related to fire prevention, protection and evacuation procedures.
Investigates fire outbreaks and liaises with external investigation authorities
Financial strategic intent
Initiates budget requirements (OPEX and CAPEX) on projects or services aiming at risk reduction.
Manages budget and recommends expenditure in line with corporation expenditure guidelines.
Establish and implement innovative measure to reduce costs.
Customer Relations & satisfaction
Develop and implement engagement plan for all internal and external stakeholders in relation to fire risks.
Advise management on queries from stakeholders and facilitate process to resolve issues through Line management.
Develop and implement Fire risk customer survey
Learning & growth
Ensure that subordinates are competent in their role and provide guidance
Provide supervisory role to direct report and ensure that performance objectives and contracts are put in place.
Review employee performance and develop improvement plans where required.
Disseminate and share fire safety information
Ensures that all safety and loss control standards (Safety Health and Environmental) contained in the Corporation’s standards are adhered to.
Undertakes Such Other Related Duties as Directed by the Supervisor
Qualifications
Job Qualification
A recognised Degree in Fire Safety Management or equivalent.
Sound knowledge in implementation of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and best practice systems such as IRCA/NOSA
Valid Membership of professional Institutes Membership of institution of Fire Engineers preferred.
Experience
JobExperience
A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in the field of fire safety
Of the above, at least 3 years in a middle management capacity in an industrial environment
A proven track record of effective people and operations management
Experience in power utility (generation, transmission & distribution) industry or related is required
