The University is looking for qualified and experienced individual for the below stated position.

The position is based at BIUST Campus, Palapye and is offered on four (4) year fixed term contract.

DEPARTMENT OF ACADEMIC LITERACY & SOCIAL SCIENCES

TEACHING INSTRUCTOR REF; ALSS: 02/19

Main Purpose of the Job

To teach and educate students in an academic discipline and to build the knowledge base in Academic Literacy, Technical and Professional Communication. Basic research and Re port-writing through research and publications.

To administer certain teaching activities within the discipline and assist in curriculum development assignments in the department

To participate in research and disseminate output through publication.

To be an active participant in university, professional and community service.

Academic Qualifications:

Education

A relevant Master’s Degree in English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistic (with a major in English Language); or Master of Education (majoring in English Language Teaching; MPhil (Language and Literacy) or equivalent. Professional Membership

Membership with any relevant professional body is an added advantage. BQA accreditation is also an added advantage

Experience

At least two (2) years post-graduate experience in teaching/ lecturing, research and or industry experience in the relevant field or discipline.

The position requires the following Competencies/Skills:

• Strong communication skills in English – both written and verbal. Ability to effectively present information in all situations to faculty, students and other employees of the University and to external stakeholders

• Ability to use appropriate media In a classroom situation
• Computer Literacy – using MS Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint and other relevant software
• Good knowledge and understanding of higher education environment
• Involvement in professional activities
• Knowledge of basic research.
• Ability to manage & analyze information
• Ability to adhere to agreed work plans and times line;
• Set and monitor standards
• Plan, implement and evaluate the offer in of modules or courses’and
• Ability to work in a team
• Good personal organisational skills.
