ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT

Main purpose of the job

To process payments, capture transactions in the Company’s books and reconcile the ledger to sub-ledgers and/or underlying accounting records to ensure the accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with the approved policies and procedures

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Capturing accounting transactions and ensuring allocation to correct amounting codes
• Ensuring that payments have the necessary supporting documentation
• Preparing payment vouchers and other documentation for payment authorization
• Processing payments and resolving creditors’ queries
• Maintaining petty cash in accordance with a petty cash policy
• Performing monthly bank, creditors and debtors’ reconciliations
• Participating in audit preparation and in responding to audit queries
• Preparing debtors’ invoices.
• Receipting monies received and banking of such receipts
• Allocation of fixed assets additions from the control accounts and coordinating asset tagging
• Calculation of depreciation and assisting with year procedures such as asset verification
• Preparing monthly tax returns and schedule of payroll thud party deduct ns
• Reconciling slat) loans and travel advance accounts and drawing the attention of the supervisor to unretired amounts
• Carrying out payroll calculations
• Performing any other related duties as required from time to time

Qualifications

• AAT or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related field
• Part-qualified accountant studying towards a professional qualification such as ACA/ACCA/CA/CIMA

Experience

• A minimum of three (3) years working experience in a commercial environment
• Experience with computerised accounting packages will be an added advantage
