PROJECT ENGINEERING MANAGER – Motheo Project

Job Summary

To take accountability for the planning, management and delivery of engineering standards, specifications, quality assurance and control of a large complex project through:

• Effective safety leadership and behaviour modelling for the project team, contractors and construction workforce in terms of engineering.
• The development of an integrated plan (for the scope of work) incorporating all stakeholders and technical functions and in line with international standards
• Set-up of required controls to ensure delivery against these standards and the objectives as defined in the project charter.
• Lead and manage the consultants and contractors to ensure engineering standards, quality and construction procedures are followed.

Key Activities

1. Leads and manages the detailed engineering and design effort of the project from detailed design, execution, commissioning and handover.
2. Ensures that the project effectively and consistently applies MCM standards and procedures, engineering design criteria, safety and operability requirements.
3. Aligns all deliverables and designs to legislative, regulatory, relevant local and international equipment and engineering standards
4. Ensures effective factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing regimens are in place and testing and commissioning establishes efficacy, safety and reliability of equipment and overall project infrastructure
5. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all key engineering, project, OEM and consulting (including EPCM) stakeholders and partners to ensure achievement of engineering objectives and overall project objectives.
6. Sets-up Project (or success, taking cognizance of inter alia:

• Alignment on roles and responsibilities with senior leadership and client (operations)
• Performance orientated agreements with external partners
• Establishment ot Engineering project controls aligned to execution strategy
• Alignment on roles and responsibilities with all team members

7. Ensures transparent reporting of progress supported by:

• QA of the data collection process
• Analysis and interpretation of root cause of variance
• Remedial actions to rectify or alternatively substantiated forecasted impact to the project

8. Provides effective leadership and management of the engineering disciplines and cross-functional teams to deliver project against objectives as defined in the project charter.

Requirements Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Candidate must be registered, or eligible to be registered with Engineering Registration Board of Botswana.
• Knowledge in FIDIC suite of contracts would be advantageous (i.e. FIDIC green book, Redbook and Gold book)

Experience:

Minimum of 15 years of experience in the following,

• Project execution in Coal Mining and related operations environment.
• Construction / Engineering Project Management environment
• Construction management experience
• Open Cast Coal Experience
• General management experience
• Contractor Management
• Experience in leading studies as Project Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer and/or Principal Engineer Behavioral Competencies:

Achievement Orientation, Judgment and Decision Making, Managing Performance and Holding People Accountable.

Planning, Coordination and Execution, Change Leadership, Concern for Safety, Health and the Environment.
