Introduction

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the successful candidates will be responsible for day to day performance of a wide range of procedures in all disciplines/sections of the medical laboratory as well as assisting the Laboratory Manager.

Specification

Key Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following: –
i)Coordinate professional, scientific, consultative, advisory, organizational, administrative and educational matters relevant to the services offered by the laboratory.
ii)Provide leadership, coaching and management of the laboratory team
iii)Participate in the development and implementation of the laboratory strategic plan and ensure that it achieves the goals and objective of the hospital.
iv)Participate in stock management to ensure availability of adequate reagents and consumables.
v)Communicate with internal and external customers at all levels and providing guidance and advice on analytical and technical issues.
vi)Evaluate, validate, verify and recommend new techniques and technologies and ensure installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure staff compliance to the manufacturer’s instructions.
vii)Coordinate the preparation of technical reports and analyzing progress, adverse trends and issuing appropriate recommendation and conclusions.
viii)Coordinate and interact with other laboratories and ensure that the program activities are cost efficient with high quality results.
ix)Participate in lab budgets and manpower planning as well as manage equipment needs of the department.
x)Participate in the selection and monitoring of laboratory suppliers.
xi)Participate in the selection and monitoring referral laboratories and consultants.
xii)Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures including the Hospital Information Management system are used appropriately in the department and ensuring correct implementation of the laboratory quality management.

Requirements
Education 

i)Bachelors of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
ii)Candidate should be registered with Botswana Health Professional Council.
Experience
i)At least 8 years working experience as a Laboratory Scientist with increasing responsibility.
ii)At least 3 years should have been served at supervisory level.
