Overview of role
We are currently seeking a skilled Key Account Manager to oversee and manage key accounts of the business. This person will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining long term relationships with accounts and maximising sales opportunities with them.
The ideal candidate will be skillful in building strong relationships with strategic customers and be able to identify needs and requirements to promote the sale and distribution of our product and achieve mutual satisfaction. The KAM’s goal is to contribute in sustaining and growing the Botswana business to achieve long-term success.

- Playing an integral role in new business pitches and hold responsibility for the effective on-boarding of new clients.
- Responsible for the development and achievement of sales through the direct sales channel.
- Focusing on growing and developing existing clients by continuously proposing solutions that meet their objectives, together with generating new business.
- Acquiring a thorough understanding of key customer needs and requirements.
- Write business plans for all current and opportunity tender business.
- Acting as the key interface between the customer and all relevant divisions
Core Activities
- Manage allocated accounts and meet or exceed targets relating to revenue growth, activities, profit margin, mix of products and services sales, customer retention and customer acquisition.
- Collaborate with and support other Account Managers within the BU in achievement of the BU (Business Unit) objectives.
- Locate or propose potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities and present the company’s portfolio to the potential clients.
- Screen potential business deals by analysing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities.
- Develop negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners’ needs and goal
- Conduct independent site visits and create a bill of quantities according to the client’s requirements.
- Negotiate best prices with suppliers.
- Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts and account plans; integrating contract requirements with business operations.
- Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s CRM system.
- Maintaining records of customer communications and sales activities on CRM system.
- Maintain accurate sales forecast figures.
- Ensure that you achieve your agreed sales targets.
- Ensure that all relevant project/opportunity related documentation is available on SharePoint.
- Grow, retain and maintain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to clients.
- Identify trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events,publications, and announcements; track individual contributors and their accomplishments.
- Protect the organization’s values by keeping information confidential.
- Setup sales budgets and forecasts, provide forecasts, weekly reports, marketing intelligence and information to supervisor and other company personnel as required.
- Provide regular feedback to management regarding Sales activity.
- Develop effective working relationships with customers through regular meetings and identify and obtain further sales and business development opportunities.
- Adhere to all quality standards and processes, for the acquisition of customers,opportunities and submission of tender and contract documents.
- Deliver weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual revenue performance in line with business expectations and ensuring that our customer received an exceptional experience.
- Ensuring achievement of revenue targets and consistently performing against KPIs and Departmental Standards.
- Ensure Business Partners are aware of all new product releases, offers and incentives, marketing materials and any relevant issues from the wider marketplace.
- Work with our Business Partners to accurately record, update and forecast all sales pipeline and opportunities to a high standard, in line with the sales methodology through a PSI channel run rate data.
Education and Experience, Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, sales, or relevant field’
- 4-5 years previous work experience in sales, management, key account
management, or relevant experience. - Proven results of delivering client solutions and meeting sales goals
- In-depth understanding of company key clients and their position in the industry
- Eager to expand the company with new sales, clients, and territories
- Able to analyze data and sales statistics and translate results into better solutions
- Exhibit confidence and foresight in soliciting for new businesses and reactivating old accounts.
- Ability to work out sales deals that will accomplish budgeted margins and correspond to the company’s sales policies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be a listener, a presenter, and a people-person.
- Basic computer skills, and experience with CRM software and the Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on superior Excel skills.
- Strong negotiation skills, with ability follow-through on client contracts.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, manage time efficiently and meet critical deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
