Bayport Financial Services is looking for an Assistant Accountant. This role requires someone who is professional, motivated, and energetic. They should also possess a high level of customer eccentricity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Loan Disbursements

• Review of disbursements to customers ensuring that they are performed timely.
• Follow up on dishonored payments and rectify
• Attend to all clients queries timely
• Adhere to standard operating procedures and related controls relating to disbursements without exception.
• Ensures the timely and accurate disbursements of loans to customers and paying out on our Lending system.

Fixed Assets Register

• Maintains the Fixed Assets register and tag all the assets timely.
• Reconcile the FA register and Pastel GL on monthly basis.
• Records additions and disposals timely.
• Reconcile the FA on the floor to the register
• Calculates/posts monthly depreciation.
• Reviews controls around company fixed assets

Cash and cash equivalents

• Performing bank reconciliation for Standard Current Account on a weekly basis.
• Receiving cash and cheques from customers and ensuring that these are deposited in the bank timely in line with set timelines.
• Checks the monthly branches and Head office petty cash reconciliation for accuracy and proper allocation in GL.
• Performs spot checks on all petty cash locations

Preparation of BURS payments

• Prepares tax payments for PAYE, withholding tax, VAT and SAT and ensures that these payments are paid within the stipulated deadlines.
• Accurately completes all the tax forms required by BURS.
• Ensure timely recording of tax payments in GL
• Reconciles Tax statements with general ledger, reviewing statements for any unusual entries and penalties

Management accounts

• Assists with the preparation of the Management Accounts pack on monthly basis as requested by the Financial accountant

Academic Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma in AAT
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• 1 – 2 years financial services experience.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Knowledge of IFRS
